Dear?Steve,
Thank you for contacting the Bureau of Meteorology regarding Black Pole Weather Station. The delay thus far, is due to the availability of a boat and skipper, great weather conditions and experienced staff. We know the likely cause of the issue but replacing the faulty parts presents a certain amount of difficulty with WH&S risks associated with this repair being so high. As you may or may not know, we generally charter a small boat to get to the pole. The crew then mounts and climbs a vertical ladder in the middle of the ocean whilst the boat is in motion. As you can appreciate, for this to work we have to rely on the perfect weather and sea conditions and the prediction of that is often difficult. We are looking at opportunities to bring Black Pole back online before Christmas. We can assure you that we are working on it, but we have to jump over a few hurdles first. We will keep you informed of our progress.

Thank you for your patience.

Kind Regards,

Fiona

It looks like a charging issue to me. My technical pessimism thinks a large marine bird is doing it's big fat #2 on the Blackpole's only solar panel when it roosts at night.
