Hey all I'm looking to buy a kit and get back into windsurfing. Are there no windsurfing shops in Adelaide anymore and if not do you have any recommendations where I can find information on board sizes. I used to sail my dads Bombora but I'm not sure what size it was, I have been thinking about getting a 130 litre board but am unsure if that is a good size for me. I'm 44 168cm and 85kgs
I reckon a 130 would be a good start, but the 85kg sailors would probably have more to say. If you want a good start to learning how to sail in light winds (the door way to light wind freestyling: tacking, helitacks, ducktacks and just sailing when not planing), then a bigger board would be the go to learn that. The tack is a very handy turn and not many sailors know how to do it and it's very difficult to learn on a small board. At 37 at 68kg, I started on a 160 and learnt all of that first. One thing I have noticed with most beginners, if they start on a small board, they never learn the slow stuff and so they can only use and be happy with one sailing mode - planing. If they are not planing, they are standing on the beach waiting. This is a real shame. I think being on the water and using any state of wind trumps standing around waiting.

In regards to board size, it will depend on your past sailing experience, ie can you beach start and waterstart, where do you plan to sail, what do you want to achieve?

Hey thanks for responding, I am reasonably good at tacking gybing beach starts. I still need to learn water starts. Living in Port Adelaide I will do most of my sailing at Semaphore or somewhere nearby to that. The Bombora was a semi sinker so it was pretty good in low wind as well as higher winds. I don't really want a 200 litre board or equivalent cause I think I will "grow" out of it very quickly.

110-120 freeride would be a good intermediate size board range. When you become advanced, this board will become your light wind board.
