All: What happens when a shark is spotted by the plane ?. Does the plane sound a siren ?,
or are surf life savers/cops scrambled to get everybody out of the water ?

(I'm assuming the single engine plane that flys over every 20 minutes over semaphor and
Largs is spotting for sharks)

Good to know. I think it's fanastic that plane goes over every 20 minutes or so.
Gives me a piece of mind. All the kiters are on the water and there's me bobbing
up and down like a rubber ducky 50m out trying to do his water starts :)

Especially deep fried in beer batter, with fresh parsley flakes, chips.. an egg on top and spam.

and haven't found the "holly grail" yet. The last place I went to was a Semaphor
Fish and Chip shop in June. I ended up giving it to the bin and getting a pie across
the road.

Nothing wrong with sharks......they help to encourage you to improve your water starts

The stunned mullet down Henley Beach is nice they won the best fish n chip shop award for the metro area. Normanville has a fish n chip shop that won the best overall fish and chip shop and best country fish n chip shop. I've been to the stunned mullet a fair few times and it's always nice, I haven't tried the Normanville though however the reports are good.

One of my customers sons was windsurfing at semapoor one day fair way out,wind dropped on him &couldnt waterstart.so treading water........ and shark shows up and starts going round and round him inching closer and closer,got going before sharkcould read board brand or eat it and poor customer son sold alll gear never to windsurf again..nother bloke i see from time to time was waterstarting at end of henley jetty in 10 ft of water when suddenly was standing on something very solid and not his board,he still windsurfs...and nother bloke reckons he was doing 20 knots at seacliff near wave buoy and a shark swam up next to him and asked for a coke!!! 20 knots,,i thought they could only swim fast in very short bursts.
so lets keep them down the food chain and in the fishnchippery!!!

C'mon boys sharks have a place in the food chain and if there were no sharks then there would be heaps more seals which would mean less fish and then you would really piss off all the fishermen.

There are no more sharks now than there were when we were all swimming out to the blue line and not even thinking about them. I remember swimming around the outer harbour breakwaters doing bombs all day when it was hot and school holidays. Sueys off the roof of the largs jetty (try doing that now!) and henley and glenelg jetties and I have never seen one.

A couple of unfortunate incidents and now we have mass paranoia. There is the great misconception that there are more sharks now is only because there are more people looking. It is very sad to see so many people on the beach but no one in the water and all for no real reason.

What's the "blue line" ?

Same thing happened in the NT with crocs. They are not scared of people anymore.

The blue line is where the seagrass starts. If you look out at most beaches the colour goes from a light blue to a dark blue. That is the blue line.

before it all started to die it was about 200-400m offshore now its about 1km in some spots.

Sharks dont need natural predators when humans are killing them at an alarming rate, whetehr they are protected or not. Im not just talking about the protection of the whites, but bronzies are commercially fished. Plusd they breed so slowly that they cannot keep up.

Crocs are a different story. Cant comment my knowledge doesnt go that far...

hey i have an idea.
why dont we buy big sails and fat boy floaty slalom boards and over crowd the water ways at goolwa and milang, and never sail in the ocean.

hahah.

i reckon its more dangerous driving to semaphore for a sail then actually sailing there.

but thats my opinion

In my experience all the sharks around here are friendly :oP
