Cool conditions on and off the water last night. Definitely felt like summer was gone. No Wally sailors, but Nick, Ron and Richard turned up in the Raceboard class. I wouldn't suggest that Wally sailors are soft, but draw your own conclusions
After the SW blowing during the day, for racing it was... you guessed it... offshore and gusty (5-15 k) but this time with a rolling swell. As usual, good racing conditions where tactics and board-handling rather than equipment were needed to stay at the front.
Course was beach start, groyne pole, reef pole, groyne pole, reef pole, beach finish. Ron and Richard were neck and neck for 30 min, and finished within 10 sec of each other. A desperate lunge at the line by Richard with him dumping his gear in the shore break got him across the line first (unforecast advantage of using a wave sail!). Nick's board speed seemed down compared to last race. But Nick, points for using a $50 sail bought on eBay!
The SUP crew disappeared for a downwinder, but we were all back at the BBQ by 7ish. Snags hit the spot!
That's it for the season folks! Presentation night is Friday 27th April at BSYC. Pigs Ribs will be playing - even if you haven't been able to join the races, come down for a good night out. We had 13 sailors participate in total - stand by for a bigger and better series next year. Start recruiting your equipment and training now! And you Wally sailors - harden up a bit!
