Welcome to the addictive sport that is wsrfn bluetroopy -
If your westlakes way the friendly crew at semaphore are always good for a chat and there seems to be crew of all levels sailing there - sellicks is the other spot but I wouldn't recommend it for a newbie until you can water start - it's offshore and can be very frustrating - seacliff is good but it can turn off quicklyduring the afternoon

Good luck

Tough call for me as Im down south and it can be calm here and 25knts there - outer harbour black pole is an indication but I think its out by some 5-6knts (stronger) than whats actually heppening at the beach - but I could be wrong - it may come in late this arvo if the seabreeze kicks with the sw change and incoming tide - depends on how storng you need it - pretty cloudy tho - sure one of the northerners may be able to make a prediction

BT

It about 10-12 knots here at brighton and looks like it might pick up a bit which will drag a few of the locals out including me - current conditions though are good if you have a bigger board and looking to move on from WL. I would expect sems to be the same.

Plenty of boaties and SLSC members out there to keep you company anyway

If you don't mind the drive, boggy is one of the best places to advamce, over summer it catches a good seabreeze in the afternoon. You can stand in most parts of the lake so if you get into problems you can just walk back. There is also usually windsurfers down there Saturadys and Sundays.

+1

about 45 mins from the toll-gate and not much longer from Hawthorn. Check the webpage for directions www.boggylake.org

Id be heading to the beaches Seacliff and down Semaphore way.

After teaching my son at both locations (Lakes and Beach) the seabreezes at Seacliff was by far the best location and cleaner than the CRUDDY/DIRTY/PARASITE FILLED/CARP INFESTED lower lakes.Plus as you get better the odd chop/wave making it more fun.

Seabreeze and lower tide mean you can touch the bottom a fair way out and a 10-15kt consistent wind.

At Semaphore there is grass. Head to the second carpark on the esplanade once you turn from Bower road if you want to sail with others.
