Plenty of good site for checking the forecast, including many on the BoM, but for those who may not be using it already this new one seems the best (big call, but it really is great):

Click on your area and choose wind in knots!

Looks great - crashed on my Vaio until I clicked compatibilty view, but works good on iphone
