Dick H of the week award goes to ME!....After being catapulted over the nose (again) while sailing at PS i came to the realization that failing to tighten one's mastfoot sufficiently, may result in separation of board and rig .
Thanks to fellow sailors (Perks and someone whose name i didn't catch), board captured before heading to Bakers Beach. Important lesson given that most of my sailing is solo.
I was nearly encouraged back into the water by Ben, but as 30-45knot gusts blew through i decided to call it a day with valuable lesson learnt.

Ahhhhh flashback......next time you tell me theres a rave party at east inlet on a dark damp night i will be highly suspicious, what were those little squares of paper with the starboard tiki man symbol? ive never had to put stickers under my tongue before! Bloody saveloys...that is bizzare....i have the dents to prove it

Don't have the guilts over that one Ant - I suspect I will go down in history as the only person ever, ever to break a leg on a chop jump at main beach Lauderdale.

He Mort your not alone with that one - bought a brand new wave board earlier in the year and first time out I was coming in on a wave at Cliffy and sail and board separated (the base plate came out of the track), obviously did not tighten up enough - another lesson learnt. Quite funny really - surfing a wave with this sail thing dangling in my hands

I remember a time where my base plate kept separating from the board, often in mid air. No problems most of the time. Until I was screaming along on a downwind reach, base let go, base of mast got dragged to windward, hit the water and stopped dead and my right knee wrapped around the mast. Thought I'd busted my knee. X rays showed the base of the femur was criss-crossed with microfractures. Doc said I was very close to a knee detonation. Needless to say that base got chucked out.

How about,
me and not tying gear on..

first episode, before i had a licence my mum picked me up from the other side of the causeway with my new Bombora New Toy.
I had tied the board on the roof with a piece of rope 30 foot long.
Anyway my rope skills were not the best and the board flew off and dragged on the end of the rope, by the fin 30 foot behind the car.
My mum did not stop as "too much traffic", i watch as my new board was towed along the causway at 60-80 km /hr ..
It end up with a big melt/scuff on the bottom and no fin!
Funny now

second was on the Sorell Causeway, my brother and I were on the way back from Marion i think.
Two boards and one piece masts and booms on the roof.
Anyway really windy and the racks blew off!!!, both boards and gear , with racks took off and landed in the water on the southern side of the causeway.
Masts broken and boards shattered.

Now there,s some stupid things!!,
Thank god i have a VAN now.

then there's the time I stabbed myself up the nostril with a large flat head screwdriver while fitting roof racks !
