That is great Johnny. Love the GPS speed record being recorded on the spot location page - that is awesome. Having the ranking page is really good too and could probably just do with some further development. There is so much GPS information that can be captured and so many ways to do it, so it's likely to be a progression of ideas.

It would be good to somehow have the information update automatically out of the GPS TC site? We can select Tasmania and get all results by year or overall (ie since the comp began), so the information is there, we just need to know how to access it and have it update. If people post data via KA72, then their sailing location is posted and can be captured, but not everyone does, for various valid reasons.

Be good to add 5x10 results by spot, but we might need to do this manually (ie individuals post you their sessions) until we automate it?

I think its good to see what the spot record is for each location. Stating the record at XXknots is sort of like saying that the waves are XXhigh at this location. Gives the traveller more insight into what they can expect at the spot.

Modified the pull down menus that load the guides. I think they look heaps better, and they load the spot guides beside the menu, not in a new window.

The wayback machine (web archive) is what I have used to gain access to your old site, but we haven't used any of the content yet, which I have also made my 'own' site copy from their archives, so I have as much as they have.

Appreciate anything you can give me, and thanks for the kind words guys.
It's been a great way to get to know a few of you too, plus learn a lot about the sites.
I'm playing around with the way it 'looks' now - so I'll have something soon I hope.

When the spot guide pages were viewed over 2000 times by unique visitors, I decided to make the jump into something more permanent. And things were getting messy and hard to manage, so the decision to create a site became easier.
So www.thespotguide.com.au is live.

I was going to wait until I'd migrated all info to the new pages, but it's taking longer than I thought - I've only done the first few in 'Northern Spots'.
Everything works, just still pointing at the old pages (in the sandbox) - until I can move everything over.

This is community driven and its for everyone to get local knowledge and feel more confident sailing our great Spots.

Remember: This site is only as good as YOUR information - you all have local knowledge - share it! email [email protected] with your ideas, corrections, info or pictures (I can't stress enough how important pictures are to make the guides more engaging, so please send them through)

note this has never actually been sailed so if you do choose to sail it and survive, please send in a report...
