We thought today's experience was worth sharing...
Great sail at Boneyayd and Marion Bay once the wind came in; Fully powered with a 4.7. However I was oblivious to Rob W's plight having broken gear making it impossible to sail quite a distance offshore. A cool head prevailed: Rob spent over an hour sitting on his board getting washed off and getting back on as the wind and delayed tidal flow into the lagoon slowly brought him ashore just north of the narrows. A good example of why not sailing at Marion Bay on an outgoing tide is not a good idea.
P.S. Les V had noticed there was a problem and kept an eye on Rob as he slowly drifted back in.

I always keep to following comparison in mind -

60 seconds sailing is 60 minutes swimming

And that doesn't account for wrestling gear.

Cheers, good tip fellas, I'll remember that next time I'm sailing there. I'm not fit enough to surf boneyards anymore ,so I imagine trying to get in with a broken rig and a low volume board wouldn't be much fun.
Had a few good sessions off the toilet block over the years in a north easter, the last one ,we downwinded through the narrows and got picked up on the side of the road back towards Dunally.
I took my boy and his mate out for a sail last week after school, let them sit on the back of the LT in a light onshore easterly on the Derwent, then the breeze dropped out to nothing fairly quickly ,we were only 20mts offshore, but I thought might be a good chance to show them how to de rig on the water and self rescue. I've windsurfed for 35, years but never actually had the need to do a self rescue, was amazed how tricky it was ,dead flat water and on an LT.
I imagine it would be bloody hard on a short board and rough water and then have to lay on it all and paddle in.
