Hey guys,

I have a NP Street Slalom 5.5.
It's in pretty good nick - a few panel tears repaired with sail tape - both sides.
I can't find any info on it, and have no idea how old it is.

I've heard that new gear these days like a 6m is like an old 5.5m sail. So I'm wondering if anyone knows where this sail fits? I dont want to carry it around as well as my Severne 6m (new) if I'm basically doubling up.

Thanks
johnny

Stick to your new 6m. The 5.5 maybe, a handful and will probably not be as efficient. Im guessing the 5.5 is older than 2000??
I would experiment with how much wind range you can get out of the 6m. By getting the right amount of downhal/outhal ect.

Ditch the old sail, the new 6.0 will be so much better and easier to use.

Ok thanks guys. So I take it my NP falls into the too old category ;-)

There's got to be a good use for old sails...

You'd have to check with Houston but an old sail may be good to add to the learner's kit.

I have an old np 6m street racer. It has a good bottom end and planes about the same time as my loft 7m but as soon as it reaches 20knts it gets hard to control....the 7m I can still hold in 25-30knts

im sure these sails were before the z1 which was 98 model but the street racers name was on the v8 in 96 and the range before that so it bloody old

Don't think we have any use for those old sails for the learner boards, the rigs we use are very light, easy to rig and easy to use. If we start using regular gear we'll need new masts/booms etc

How do these old sails fair for being cut down to kids rig sizes?
Ive got a couple of sails that I've thought about trimming to size for my 7yo to try on.
After seeing Chris and his son up at low head on I think an ezzy kids rig though, the gear looked so good with smaller boom and mast-light enough. Is there much difference or us it like me choosing my new 6 against the old 5.5..?..throw the old gear away I can hear someone yelling! :-)

Kiids rigs are more specific again than the wt learner boards rigs
They have very short skinny masts, very light narrow booms and small ( 2.5 ish) metre sails.
The kids rigs are very well priced and you would not even consider making one up when you can buy a mast, boom, base and sail form around $250! when they are on special.

How about getting a skateboard and using them for a windskater?

Yeah ben, we have done that back in old days !
used to 'skate sail' around the top of carparks and have weekly events/meet ups.
perfectly honest the mountain board type boards are a lot more versatile.

The sail gets knocked about a lot making them perfect for old gear thats otherwise useless....

There is a few kicking around the state.... good back up option on lighter days
