I've spent a bit of time looking at it and have the perfect boat for it, but I've never had my gear when the wind has been up. Anyone sailed it before? It looks like it would work in anything between a S & SW - any tips/tricks?

Tide is murder through there.
Lots of wind sheer from the point.

Surprised to hear it works on a SE - I would have thought that would be too offshore and protected (rooted) by pt nepean.

H20, did I read you did the melbourne IM and finished a bit over 10hrs?

I have surfed it years ago. It's offshore in SE and I guess cross on in SW but you really have to watch the tides and just aim for slack water and you get about 45 minutes in between tides. Someone has to stay in the boat too.

Byron Marsh and Steve "Dog" Hayden used to sail it regularly back in the mid 90's.

They added an extra dimension to it though. They would sail there from Queenscliff, have their session at Corsair then sail back across the Heads home!

Gutsy

Yeah, I've heard they used to do that. Pretty full on. I've got an old trawler moored at Blairgowrie with a 5m x 9m rear deck to rig up on...got to be a fair bit safer than sailing across the rip!

Let us know if your going to have a crack sounds like you have the perfect boat. Really wouldn't be too bad starting at blairgowrie. Would want someone on the boat all the time maybe not if you moored it around the point and didn't break any gear...I think a southerly and about a 4ft swell would be good to go on the first trip. I know a few people that sail there but I never have. Pretty keen to have a try

Let us know if you want someone to stay on the boat. I would be interested in comming for a look. I have a bit of an idea about the area, we race keelboats from blairgowrie down to there occasionally.
