The aim is to first check out the location by boat on a calm day, then if it looks possible, come back in moderate sailing conditions and launch from the boat. It's a bit of a tricky location to sail out to. 25kts might make it a bit gnarly for a boat launch though.
Don't worry, when it happens we'll definately want to get it on video.

There is a rather large sand-spit just off the LHS of Flinders Island - there are a few of us that are keen to do some speedsailing on it.
Its a bit far to sail out to, but with a boat it would be possible... its the launching of the boat into 30+kn that makes it complicated.
In any case, I'd be interested...

I'd be very keen also if there is still room. Sounds very enticing - options of speed run or some waves!!

OK guys (and gals, if there are any). Looks like this Saturday could be the go for a recce.
Forecast for Saturday
Winds: Light winds tending south to southeasterly up to 10 knots during the afternoon then tending east to southeasterly during the evening. Seas: Below 0.5 metres.
Sunny. Temps- low 20's.
Low tide at Stony Point is at 1609, so it could be low tide at Middle Bank maybe half an hour earlier. I think it would be best to check out the location around low tide as we will be better able to see obstacles, hazards, speed runs etc and set some marks into the GPS.
I'd want to put the boat in at Stony Point. If we met up at around midday near the general store, we could have some lunch and discuss where we want to go. I have a paper chart which we could use to work out ideal sailing conditions, wind and swell directions, tides and stuff.
There should be plenty of time for a fish. Hopefully someone will know some good spots and what to target.
The boat can take up to 6 people in total- max total weight 450kg. Ideally a max of 4, especially if we are going to fish. Otherwise it gets a bit squeezy. So it's first in, best dressed.
Give me a call on 0417 519 117 to confirm a place.
And just for this special occasion, pray for no wind on Saturday, at least within 5 nautical miles of Middle Bank.
Cheers
