I've been lurking round this site for a while now and I thought it was time to introduce myself

My name is Echunda (long story) but most people call me chunny.

I'm 31 years old, work in procurement in Melbourne CBD and live in Elwood.

I enjoy outdoor sports and love my bikes (have 3 road bikes, motorised that is and 1 dirt bike), plus MTB etc.....

My goal this summer is to learn how to windsurf.

I boought a POS of ebay, read a little more and decided to walk into RPS and ask their advise. Turns out I was stupid for buying a POS and they kindly hooked me up with a Starboard Go. I've got the deposit down and hope to pick up this Saturday.

From the people I've spoken to, it seems to be a great bunch, but I don't understand the rivalry between kiters and sailboarders.


Anyways.....

I'll be sailing as much as I can around the Elwood / Sandringham area and I'm looking at maybe joining a club for the social aspect.

Anyone know of a club and where they meet?

Looking forward to sailing with you all (once I learn how to stay on!!)

I've only been out on the water 3 times, hoping to get out this weekend as well (around sandringham)

I'm just starting to stand up cant steer yet but sort of hoping this weekend that will come together

I nearly made the same mistake you did on ebay. You probably noticed my thread where I kept asking - this one ok? How bout this one? I guess those cheap ones on ebay are there for a reason at that price

PS - I'm also into the bike scene as well (1 road bike though!)

No doubt we'll catch up (unlike the others I'm still only going out when theres a light breeze) Cant concentrate on sailing and standing up in swell atm

What bike do you ride?

I've got 2 ZX6r's, a CBR954 and a TTR!

If the winds up I'm thinking of heading down to Lysterfield Lake, might take the MTB down and do a quick loop.

I'll be joining Windsurf VIc, might look at elwood as well.

Wazza, what board/ sail did you end up getting?

Also get down to Lysterfield fairly regularly - so be keen to join you (I also MTB down there in the winter....love it when its raining and the roos are mobbing about). If you're still struggling to get back upwind/turnaround, be careful getting blown downwind beyond the small pier at the rigging area when its blowing south/south west (left to right) which is most of the time) - you'll end up in the reeds followed by an upleasant and very muddy walk back.

I only started windsurfing in mid-November and also bought a Starboard Go. Great to learn on - you'll love it. Also sail down at Elwood and St Kilda - still falling off though!

I'll be up for a MTB / Windsurf / BBQ at Lysterfield in a couple weeks.

My favourate is Lysterfield / Churchill park in winter at night. Great trails with no others around.

When I know a date I'll post up an invite.

Where did you get your starboard from?

How much did you end up paying?

Got it from RPS in Elwood as part of their package. Think it was $1699 with a couple of lessons chucked in - very useful for learning how to rig the thing correctly. Have you been out on your new toy yet? Mines now got a few scars on it - a bit like buying a new pair of runners - only feels right once they're 'worn in' a little.
