I've never sailed at 13th Beach, does it work in an easterly? I've heard that it's best NW - W.

Hi Rob, I have only sailed 13th on a NW / WNW......but it should also work on an E-SE with the wind cross-on port tack jumping.
Its windy, so I recommend getting out there and telling all of us how you go!

Never been to 13th on an easterly, would like to know what it's like though... South Channel is hitting 41 knots in gusts at the moment, must be big.

Any other good spot on an easterly like today?

Decided not to go down there in the end, but I'm tempted to check it out tomorrow. Lots of variables, the thing that would concern me most would be a wind shadow making it hard to plane through the wave zone. Or it could be clean waves and cross shore perfection. Only one way to find out.

Ive sailed 13th on an easterly a bit, and it's definitely worth a go. It's not as clean as in a NW but still fun cross on wave rides and jumps. Today would have been pretty big and hairy I doubt you missed out on much. I've never seen anyone else down there when I've sailed it, which I think has a lot to do with everyone else down this side not liking port tack!

Good to hear your comments Zac, yeah I think today would have been full-on with 35 - 40 knots, possibly not the best introduction to 13th. Living in Elwood I'm a port tack guy, but really need more experience with starboard tack as I sometimes head to Maui and really struggle with jumping on my 'bad' side.

there is much better options for wave sailing on a SE to bother.. SE is the premium wind you want for wave sailing on the other peninsula. Gunnamatta, Woolamai, Inverloch and Sandy point are all cross/cross off on SE. They are all great spots and pick up varying levels of swell which is usually the deciding factor on where to go..

yep what joel said - better options on the other coasts

13th can be sailable but needs to be full easterly - the challenge is the swell in those conditions makes for a horrendous sweep and no consistent banks - most Torquay crew take on the bump and jump in Zeally Bay
