need to know wind strength, direction, and the size of the lumpy stuff you intend to ride on.


lot of people,have 2/3/4 wave boards...some people have 5 (NR)


though...2 boards will do the job....

i'm 90 ish kgs and use a

rrd FSW 110 for light winds

Stone 88l ...bread n butter wave board

delta 85 for high winds, which i never use cos my stoney does the job with a small fin on...so will someone PLEASE buy it off the forum,,,it's been there for years..hahah

Can never have too many boards in the toy shed....

Windy Miller/ Hardie I mostly sail off Gerroa on the NSW South Coast which in summer blows across offshore(not sure if thats the right term) 15 to 25 knts. Waves are normally around the 1 to 1.5 metre mark but often smaller. I tend to spend a fair bit of time freeriding there when its small. After a board that has is quick and good in waves. Do they exist? Have been looking on the net at boards like the sumo 105, exocet cross, rrd 109 etc

GC74 I sail at Gerroa so know that it can be small a lot of the time - when it's like that a RRD FSW 100-110ltr would be ideal as it's quick and you can do freestyle. However I sold mine for a 100 ltr wave specific board (which some people will know isn't the strongest board around) which is so much better in the waves. I also have a Naish 88ltr down the line board but I haven't used for about 18 MONTHS as I weigh 94kgs and I haven't been out in strong winds for ages.

The 100ltr is big enough for me to do float out sailing in 8 knots.

Windsurfnsnow have a huge Carbon Art wave board (about 120ltrs!) second hand and the bigger lads in NSW seem to rip on the 100ltr Evo which was designed for Antoine Albeau who's about 100kgs.

freewave boards work well for beginner wavesailors, there turn pretty good on waves, and with your weight you could realy dig the bigger rails in hard. they plane faster, great for cross on-shore conditions and are great to jump. most float really well for there size too. i weigh 90 kgs at the moment and can still uphaul a 95 litre freestyle wave board. but i have found that most come with way too much fin, the last one i had come with a 28cm fin, i ditched that for 23cm in the same fin to wake it better in the waves, and a bit more slidie well if thats a word.

I sail Gerroa a bit. It's cross offshore and fairly fickle off the beach so you need a board that's got a little bit of buoyancy to be able to get out through the sets. I weigh about 82kg and use a 92L Evo.
