yes i think your right decrep...i do recall it was un seasonal when i was there and seeing it rain...that is peak season as well i believe...endless sun and low thirtys.

I wouldnt bother going to Coral Bay for windsurfing any time, but especially July. Bit like going to Paris and eating at McDonalds.
Its unlikely to be windy and if it is itll prob be offshore.
Beautiful spot, loads of stuff for kids and adults to do-fishing snorkelling 4wd diving etc.
Go fishing (beach or charter), try Bushy's Seaforce Charters for a good day and a feed to take home.

Exmouth itself is a s++thole, sandy dry and hot, and you need to start your car to do anything.
Good windsurfing/surfing on the west side though from lighthouse south. But still why would you bother taking sailing gear all the way up there in the off season?

Snorkelling is the main objective of course.

Because it is really hard for an addict to look at all that beautiful ocean without wanting to go for a sail on it, especially if there is some wind. You all know what I mean!
I don't want a repeat of my experience at Green Island last year where I had to sit on the beach and enviously watch a couple of locals blast up and down in 30 knots because I had no gear. The snorkelling was great, but snorkelling + windsurfing would have been perfect!
Anyway it sounds like good sailing wind at Coral Bay in July is unlikely so probably best to leave the windsurfing gear home and take the kayak instead.

Don't bother taking the gear in July! Firstly, no vessels of any kind are allowed to operate in coral bay, except for the tour operators. I went sailing there in January and got in trouble with the ranger! Secondly, the wind in july is no good, as you've probably worked out from the other posts. Take a longboard and go surfing up near the lighthouse!

You can hire kayaks at the end of the car park. Its an old shack. Saves taking your own.

Kayaking is allowed, in fact i'd recommend it! Kayak north from the main swimming beach to the shark nursery, about 500m? away. About 40+ black tip reef shark pups living in a lagoon, lurking about

I have been to coral bay 2 times over the last few years, both times in June/July.

It gets fkn cold at night and days are like mid-20s. The weather varies quite a bit on the ocean up there. Both times had a few days of massive swell. And both times had multiple days where it was way too windy to go out on the boat, a few would have been sailable (SSW, S and SSE). If I had brought gear it would have been great. I have always wanted to try and windsurf south passage, on big swell days that looks awesome. But you would need a jetski or a boat nearby because it is a long way out in sharky seas if you break something.

If you have room, take your gear but expect not to get a sail in. That being said if you go with a bunch of people keen on fishing it will likely be windy, and you get to sail instead of sit on the beach grumbling about the wind.
