Like a rowing course.
Sunken channel, lane markers every 5-10m, straight no bends.

I've asked before and been shot down like a luftwaffe fighter pilot

have driven past and there are (as elmo says) marker bouys (for the lanes) permanently in place.

Heard a few guys discussing a few times & reckon the wind is too gusty but they were talking Easterlies.

Just had a look on GE & it's 2.2km long, nice NM
& I reckon you could get going across the lake about 200 metres then bear away for the full length.
It would have to be a good Northerly or Southerly to get a good 135 deg run.

I would like to check it out.

I have taken up rowing as my non-wind keep fit activity. First regatta was at Champion Lakes last Saturday and I wish I had taken my board with me as it was crap for rowing It has been built to reduce the effect of the wind on the course (although that wasn't very obvious on Saturday - brrrrr), so while the water is flat, I am not sure that it would be that good for sailing and likely to get worse when they start to put in more wind protection. The wind was very up and down along the course. I think the local council is the contact if you want to find out more about what the course can be used for.
It feels very wrong talking about wind protection etc, like I am cheating on my first love (windsurfing) It certainly felt wrong to be sitting out there while everyone else was hooning around on the ocean.

So Mickey, does that mean you might be able to act as a spy at other venues & advise the normal people (windsurfers) whether these said venues are sailable?

We are getting desperate now that SA seem to have the best spot in Aus!

Yep
I am in Wiluna now (work not rowing)and there is a very sailable lake that pops up after the rains. I'll try and get out there next time and take some pictures.

On Sunday 8th November the Golden Spokes Charity Event www.goldenspokes.com is running at Champion Lakes. It is a Cycling race around the inner track and a road circuit, but there is also Dragon Boats planned on the water.
I am asking the organiser to get permission for windsurfers to sail around "add to the spectacle"

You may have your chance to windsurf Champion Lakes. Pray for that Easterly !
