I'm moving to Perth area (SOR) in May from the UK which is getting into winter time. I'm planning to take one board with me on the plane. The rest will have to be shipped with the household goods and could take 3 months to arrive. What would be best to take for the winter to give me the best chance of a good sail, a 120ltr slalom board with 7,8m sail or a 97ltr FSW board with 5,3 - 6m sail. I'm 85kg.
Hi mate I'd suggest a fsw board for winter. Generally nw-w during that period that can range from 15-20 through to 20-30 knots depending on the strength of the front. I live (SOR) and enjoy winter fronts at safety bay that offers quite a few spots to launch from
Yes, winter is mainly 5-10kt westerlies, with the occasional 20-60kt storm. so at some stage you'll be able to ride the big or small, just bring the stuff you prefer to use.
Having windsurfed in Scotland with 6-8 deg C in winter, 5mm steamer and boots, gloves and hat, I'm sure I can do without heated footpads.
You got no idea how cold it can get in perth in winter the water temp drops to about 16/17 celcius and its fn freezen, we are used to sailing 21 to 24 degree water temps, and estuaries about 26 degrees

Bring the 5mm steamer, boots and hat. Otherwise your feet get so cold you can't feel them. I'd go with the smaller board cos you're going to want to be out when it's really howling rather than the light wind days.

Don't bother. I am from the UK, been here 6 years and until the winter just gone I was windsurfing in Boardies and rashie only, its a bit chilly but if you sailed in scotland you will be fine. Last winter I decided I must have acclimatised and got a 3mm wetsuit
so its all in good humour if somebody else indicates for you to join up.
