A couple of weeks back, Sunday 30 August, MBSC held a heat of its winter racing series and held two short races for Windsurfer LTs, Open Sailboard/ Raceboard, Sharpies and Moths, foiling and non-foiling.

The Windsurfer fleets had a combined start with both the One Design LT and the Open Sailboard fleets starting on the same line at the same time. LT Champion Craig Bell showed his talents despite some challenges from some of the veterans like Bjorn Hage and Mark Taylor, the latter using his Ezzy Zephyr 7.5 m2 Open Sailboard rig to push Craig hard around the buoys in the light 5-13 knot light winds prevailing. All competitors had thoroughly enjoyed the racing, judging by the smiles on their faces at the post race celebrations. Thanks to Class Captain David Reid for your work in making this happen.

The Moths including foiling variety were out. The Moth foilers Sean Carr and Matt Harskamp were tuning up for the Worlds about to take place at MBSC later this year. Rear Commodore Damian Smith was also out getting his non-foiling scow Moth ready in a shake down sail for a competitive season and Worlds entry. Best of luck to all competitors.

Back to Windsurfing: The Windsurfing fleet is looking forward to a busy season at MBSC with Opening Day kicking off soon for the summer on Saturday, 3rd October 2026. There are rumours of the start of a Raceboard class at MBSC comprised of old vintage boards spearheaded by Bjorn and his fleet of Mistral Equipe and Speed Raceboards. Some even talking of ordering new boards like the Exocet RS V7 380 Carbon Raceboard or the Exocet RS V5 380 AST One Design Raceboard for new adventures on the water. Its going to be interesting to watch developments.

The photographs below were taken from shore by the wonderful Peter Zeroni on a visit to Perth. Peter is an avid photographer who has been windsurfing for a while. He has sailed the Windsurfer LT but also is now a gun windfoiler in Darwin (NT) waters amongst the Crocodiles. Thanks Peter.
