Try the north/east side of the cape.

Plenty of protected water around Dunsborough and it still gets the seabreeze.

I'm off to Yal for a couple of weeks . Any advice on spots to wet my sails within 45 mins of Yal? I have freeride gear so 12 foot waves might be a stretch . Cheers, P.

Mate the Dunno side of the cape is offshore on a SW'er seabreeze.

If flatish water is what you are after, try sailing from smiths beach. You can launch fromm the western end (wind shadow and no death shore break to get through)). Its then a short slog to get out to the wind line.

Cow town bay is alright as well.

Its a great bit of coast to do down winders. Years ago i and a few mates sailed from Gallows to Smiths on wave kit. It still one of the best sails of my life.
