The "normal" pattern as the fronts come thru, is to start in the N/NW then swing around to SW. But "normal" doesn't mean all that much lately, the last few years, the SW bit hasn't been so evident. There's also been a lot of straight Westerlies that don't swing much.
In other words don't rely too much on anything.

When the fronts do come they're very gusty and unpredictable. On and off. Plan to sail as the fronts come through and keep warm in between. The forecast generally indicates wind building during the day but that hasn't happened lately. Get out there early while it's still NW. It's warmer and less wet.
Note: NW underreads on the Melville waters anemometer by at least 5 knots.

Starts briefly as a Northerly swings NW for a while then can sit as a westerly for a couple of days once it goes from wsw to sw it usually dies out very rapidly.

buut also when it swings it will drop for a while. If it is sailable NW then drops when u r on the way to the beach, don't fret, it will come back same strength westerly 20min later, and likewise when it goes from west to southwest.
But as Rider says, the SW is usually not that good.

I think a normal front is OK on NW, strongest on W, and then weakens a lot on SW.

but the fronts are nowhere near as good as few years ago

two seasons ago it was AWESOME, the westerlies come through always on the afternoon, was really consistent as well, jumping improved very quickly with 3-4 sessions a week
