I just got the HA 1180 foils thinking this could replaces my MA 1750 and MA 1475.would be nice to have a table with ma on one side and the equivalent HA on the other. Make it easer for me and others to decide on my next Ha thinking HA980 and keeping my MA 1000. for decent wave sizes. Weight 88 kg 70 this month.

The guy is a ripping rider, about 80kgs probably. For me at 100kgs, this has roughly worked out for me too. 1180 replaced my 1750 (and the 1180 has a faster top end and i can take it into stronger winds) and the 880 replaced my 1250. But the 880 seems so easy to get up on foil that (i) i cant see myself touching the 1250 again, and (ii) i'm wondering if i should have got the 780 instead.

THE HA FOIL RANGE - SIZE MATTERS

I've spent about a month demoing out the V2 HAs here on Maui. It's mostly been to those who had been using the V1 HAs or MAs, but also to those who had been using setups from other brands, primarily, F-One, Unifoil, and GoFoil. The majority of demoing has been for winging and prone, but also for SUP and DW. This post offers some guidance for figuring out what to get.

The breakdown below offers a guideline of equivalence between the V1 and V2 HAs in terms of lift and stall speed. Comparing stall speed is useful but it's important to remember that the V2 HAs have a foil section which allows for them to stall gradually, unlike how the V1 HAs would tend to just drop at a certain low speed and angle-of-attack. Each recommended V2 HA is considerably more stable across all axes-and they roll better and stay with waves so much more predictably. A rider comfortably using one or more of the V1 HAs for winging or prone can rely on the following:

WINGING AND PRONE
1525: 1180
1325: 1080 or 980*
1125: 880
925: 780
725: 580 or 680**
525: N/A

* The 1080 has a slightly lower lift speed but the 980 has a more similar stall speed.
** The 680 has a slightly lower lift speed but the 580 has a more similar stall speed.

pretty much all we use now. for all forms of foiling.

How do the Armstrong APF foils compare with the Armstrong HA's. I ride the APF1675 in light winds 10-12 knots. Pops up easy. Which HA is similar and how does it compare?

Slightly more more speed needed as you'd expect but much faster with far more glide. Can't get away with physics and design. I'm not a big fan of the APF for anything apart from dock starting of which is was designed for. Too slow for winging, makes an okay wing to learn DW paddle but quickly becomes way too slow for ocean moving swells.

Thanks for all the very helpful advise . this is what I went with.
HA 1180 got the HA880 using on my new ML85l board
Went with the HA880 over the HA980 because of the ML board . Should move along faster than my old FG 88 L board.
My thinking is get gear that will make my life easy . With more fun on the water.
