Looking at getting a wing possibly from Europe. Has anyone bought one recently & had it shipped over to Aus or NZ? Thinking Gong Droid or Takoon. Interested to hear about anyones experiences. I could buy locally however I can't seem to find any new cheap wings & I don't want to spend a lot of money on something that'll be trashed in a year or so.

Hey, we are not so rich to buy cheap stuff ;)
But to you your question, try to look kiteworldshop, but not sure what the shipping costs will be. I bought from them Cabrinha Vision for great price.

Got some Takoon Parrawings delivered today.

Took the punt based on a few on-line reviews review & quality seems OK - haven't got them on the water yet.

Price was excellent, even after factoring in the15% Duty + GST (based on price including shipping cost) + a bit more for customs handling/clearing.

Service was great, responded to emails withing 24hrs and shipped door to door (France ->Aust) in 7 days - even with the current "disruptions'

Thumbs up from me for stuff that can pack small.

Did you get hit with duty & GST? I got a price at the checkout of $2200.00NZD ($1800 AUD) for a wing with handles & a parawing without any GST added. Postage was $271.00 which I thought was a bit OTT.
Since a wing is around $1800+ & most parawings $1600 (all NZD) it seems a lot cheaper.

Yep, not sure how it works in NZ but stuff coming into AU gets hit with 5% duty, 10% GST + some admin costs - and this is based on the cost of the item + shipping.

From some other international purchases other carriers (DHL/FedEx it think) seem to include it in the shipping cost but Takoon go through the equivalent of Aust Post so probably not the most efficient/cost effective outside Europe.

For what I was after, even with all these add on's, the $$ made sense.

Other factor is local support - while they were great in responding to emails and seem pretty good on warranty, it's a long way to send something back if there's an issue down the track.

Guess it gets down to what you're buying & doing the maths to figure out if it works for you.

Good luck.

Considering how often new wings can have issues, a mail-order wing would have to be dirt cheap.

The Aramid Gong Droid 5 metre is the best wing I've tried to date. Can't comment on the 6. I haven't had a lot of brand experience, Ozone, Naish, Gong and Neil Pryde.
Big fan of Takoon too, although so far haven't purchased any of their kit..

Well, when I started wings were about $1000 new. Now they're getting towards $3K. If you're not performance based there should be a more budget option. I'm happy riding 3 yr old technology & not after the lightest, tightest materials.
