Here's an interesting video about how to pump up onto foil. I thought the "sock" analogy was very clever.

I think some of their advice is more relevant to a bit higher volume boards with faster hull speed. On my short rather sticky board you HAVE to pop it before trying to build any speed.
Just a beginners perspective.
