Go Foil GT 2200 with FTL 20" tail
A / B tested yesterday vs
The dinosaur Go Foil Maliko 280 with original blue Maliko tail -
M280 is a known dog.... But also known as possibly the earliest lifting foil.
Light wind. 8.0 F One CWC wing. Floaty Kalama E3 board.
Successive short 10-minute runs changing front and rear wings. Speed in mph.
Data from Garmin watch (nice to see data instead of opinion)

Conclusions.
* Massive difference in performance.
* GT 2200 with FTL20 tail was better in basically every way. Makes the M280 obsolete except for very large intermediate heavyweights in light winds and some beginner situations, as it still flies early for sure.
* Basically throw away the old big blue tail. Very slow and draggy. Use the FTL20 instead. The chart somewhat shows how slow, but you could feel the drag It was super slow around jibes. To say something positive, the big blue tail's stall speed was super low, so you could dig out of holes at the end of a jibe at almost no speed. Also you could Ollie up on that tail early and to dig out of jibes really well at very low speeds.
* M280 with the newer FTL20 was a far better M280 experience. More glide around jibes and less draggy feel. The speeds only show a small increase but the feel was far better. Very smooth takeoff, about as smooth as it gets. Good to instill confidence in big beginners.
* The 2200 pointed far higher upwind... Even when fully lit with the FTL20 tail the M280 struggled to point anywhere near what the 2200 could.
* I tried the 2200 with the old blue tail as well. I was trying to test all combos. It worked... But there was no benefit to using it. Worse in every way. Less pointing ability, less speed, no gain in stability, nothing.
* Top speed hit that day was 18 mph with the GT 2200 and FTL 20 combination. Quicker than you might think! Super easy combo. Glide for days through transitions. A great setup to improve on in light winds.
I assumed the Maliko 280 would win at super super low end. And it probably barely did win... for a guy my size.
For everyone else, the GT 2200 would be flying as early as anything, and be far more fun.
Simple conclusion: The GT 2200 and FTL20 is a bundle of fun in light winds. From near M280 levels of low end with far greater top end and fun factor.
(The M280 might never be topped for flat water starts though!)
