It's time to upgrade my gear! Before I go ahead, I'm hoping to get some advice from the heavier riders out there and to see what your experience has been like if any riding my potential setup below or if you can shed some light on what you're riding in which conditions. I'm 87kg/190lbs and ride in 15kts+, land gybes and tacks no problem, I've also had a few successful wave sessions. The main reason for upgrading is to ride waves, be more maneuverable and faster. The setup I'm looking at is an Armstrong performance 865 mast with a 60cm fuse.

I'm looking at getting two front wings - the MKII 890 and HA 880 - my questions with these are will it have to be nuking for me to ride these? Is it worth getting the HA 880 and going a bit smaller in the MA and use that when it's nuking or is there enough of a difference between the HA 880 and the 890 to make it worth it.

Stabilizer, I'm thinking either the Surf MKII 170 or 200.

I'm 93kg and ride the HA780 in the conditions you describe so no it doesn't have to be nuking for you to ride those sizes. You could easily go HA680 especially in good swell. Low end and stall speed are excellent. I have never used the MAmk2 so can't help there.
I also use HA980 and HA1180 for light wind, DW and parawing. Mostly use the HPM795/60 fuse.
Recommend the Speed 180 and Dart stabs. The Speed 180 is just as Armstrong say, a super all round stab, very stable. The Darts are faster and more reactive giving increased glide as well.

i'm about 200 lbs, and use the HA 1180 in lightest conditions, MA 990 wing for most conditions and switch to HA 780 when its nuking. For me (fairly non-technical), the MAs and HAs aren't so different that I would buy an MA and HA that are as close in size as 890/880.

Thanks! After these two posts looks like it's going to have to be three new foils

Can i suggest considering a 670 UHA for when wind is good and lack of swell . riding bumps etc.

790ma for when wind is on and waves are on.

990ma for when wind is lighter but waves are on .

for what its worth, i (80kg) have settled on MA790 as daily driver and MA890 for smaller conditions and sold everything else. (HA880, HA1180, HA580, HA925).

if you want to carve the hell out of a wave, the MA's are the way to go.

maybe consider two tails, 130 and 170. the 790/130 is a little slice of heaven.

That's definitely something to consider! and yes only for winging at the moment.

Thanks! Have you found much of a difference in the glide between the HA and MAs?

I'm 88kg. been running 880HA for a few years. Just added a MA690 for stronger winds and bigger waves. Feels like a good foil combo for me. Glide of the MAs much less than the HA. I don't really ride anything bigger for winging than the 880HA. Seems to get me out in most conditions I wanna wing in.
