That is pretty mad!!

On a similar topic in a recent episode of the progression podcast Zane Schweitzer talks about winging into jaws, ditching the wing and surfing the wave. He does this multiple times and has a jetski to retrieve his wing. He says the sheer amount of apparent wind created by the massive waves made it almost impossible to ride the wave holding the wing.

This podcast is a really good listen. I have tried to search for videos or photos of the action but couldn't find anything. If anyone knows where to find it please post it here.

That's basically what I mentioned somewhere in a recent post. And that is if a Wingsurfer could fly like a hanglider going over the back of a wave in offshore winds using the updraft.
Looks like it's happening.
We just might see flying above and along the face of swells now that bigger wings are coming out.
Something that kites & windsurfers cannot do.

That is a super interesting podcast. My takeaway from that is much smaller foils (? 500cm2 and almost zero lift) and super thin leading edges on the wings (meaning Naish had the right idea with 12psi to start with or different thinner leading edge materials altogether).

The future.

Anyone care to guess how much wind and how much wing you'd need to get a shortboard on the plane?

Theres another longer vid of this where it shows him being towed in by a jetski with his wing. I was all excited until I saw the tow in. Nathan VanVuren and his Dad have a production SPG wing board(non foil) in the works. The concept of wave riding on a surfboard with wing is pretty exciting.

Kai says he's using a 24ltr board and 5m wing in 30 knots. Check the comments in the video below.

Sad it was towed in rather than wing power. Hmmm
