Evening all.
I am just after some info on what I can expect from a 2018 Naish Thrust Surf Foil (Large) with the 55cm Mast, and Hover 5'2 Comet. The kids and I are new to foiling and we managed to pick up complete setup second hand for $1200. We don't surf with it but use it out at the dam behind the boat to learn on.
We have been riding it since Christmas and can confidently foil with the rope, but we are struggling to keep it going on the 2 ft wake behind the boat. (Running at 10 knots) without the rope. I understand that we will need a longer mast to get better pumping, but is the rest of the setup sufficient ride a smallish wake?
Just for further info I am 90kg and the lightest kid is 45kg.
I'm betting you'll get a range of input here, but starting with you at 90kegs you'll probably need at least the xl to pump any distance on flat water and that probably applies to a small wake as well. They are thick and draggy but they can foil at really low speeds. The 5'2 board is on the big side which isn't fatal but is saps a bit of energy from the equation and fresh water might have a noticeable impact on the lift of your setup too.
I don't know if that setup is backward compatible with the newer higher aspect Naish stuff but maybe try to demo one of the bigget HA wings just to see. It will be hugely different in a good way.
