It was a matter of time

Wait have we come full circle back to kiting? I’m not a kiter but this looks very kite-ish….

It was kite from beginning.

Well this is another interesting development in the para world. Strangely on their website some bits were in English but the explanation of the push bar system was in French so I ran it through google translate and this is what I got:

The Pushbar System® - The technology that changes everything
The PBS is the only bar in the world with a true sheeted-in depower system capable of modifying the geometry of a pocket wing in real time. One movement, one push, and you instantly control your power.
Need security in a gust? Push. The wing depowers instantly.
Need a boost? Pull. Maximum power returns.
When used with a harness, the Pushbar System® frees your arms and radically transforms your experience: longer sessions, more precise control, and a doubled wind range. Without a harness, the FYNIX remains a high-performance and intuitive pocket wing like any other. It's the PBS + harness combination that reveals its true potential.
The entire mechanism is integrated inside the carbon bar.
Results: shorter lines, packing in seconds, and a clean aesthetic.
Shorter lines and the absence of a pre-line increase maneuverability. More direct, more responsive control.
Fly longer with less effort. When other riders come back exhausted after an hour and a half, the FYNIX lets you keep going – because pushing on a bar to reduce power uses infinitely less energy than constantly being pulled.
Why is a 33cm bar enough?
Our competitors use 40 to 55cm bars to try to increase their ability to depower the kite. It's a stopgap, not a solution. The Pushbar System® solves the problem at its source: a simple push instantly cuts the power, regardless of the kite size. The result: a short, light, maneuverable bar and a kite that truly responds. The Pushbar System® is a technology developed by SROKA. The name “PushBar System®” is a registered trademark, and the associated innovation is a patent application filed with the INPI (French National Institute of Industrial Property).

I am not totally sure how this is much different to a normal parawing bar setup. They are stating big wind ranges on their website 14 to 29 knots for a 4m!

Also quite cheap. Usually if you get something sent to aus you can get them without VAT then a 4m is about $900 aud so no import fees . I might be wrong about that though.

Imagine the next thing is someone comes up with a board that doesn't need those hugely expensive foils (which are an 'arms race' to nowhere to be frank).. and is so thin that you can actually feel the water with your feet!

When you read the information on the Sroka website about the FYNIX, it really feels like a great innovation, especially when you see the wide wind ranges of these wings.
Now I think we need to wait for user feedback to see if it’s truly a great innovation or just marketing.
To date, Bruno Sroka has always been a discreet and competent person, and I hope his FYNIX will live up to his reputation.
To be continued
Thanks

Looking at this video carefully :

it seems the depower works only if the harness line is engaged? Otherwise if you are just holding onto the bar then it would get pulled towards you and in full power mode ? So in other words, riding harness free in the jibes would mean having to negotiate those jibes with full power? And so how do you dump that power then? Tilt it like other parawings? Interested to hear thoughts on this from others

I think it is opposite. To get full power need to pull the bar towards you (hooked in)

Bar far from you = less power.

Unhooked is idem depowered configuration (but even in depowered config it still works like a normal parawing)

I'm assuming here .. hope we can see more info soon on this.

Look what just showed up. Answered my question!

impressive, transparent, well communicated. Takes the guesswork out of it. Well done Sroka.

All it needs now is an inflatable leading edge, so it's easier to relaunch.

Anyone had the chance to try and test it?

Lots of hype on seabreeze about the ppc orbit with their stringy thingy 😅 but seems Sroka with their pushbar is flying under the radar so to speak …

I did (to an extent). I went out when it was 14 knots gusting to 25 on a small lake. I am about 80kg and got the Sroka Fynix 5m (paid full price, no association with the company), below average winger and was once on an ozone pr v2 for 15 min (never got up).
So my experience with the parawing is not existent. Take my notes with a grain of salt.
First of all, I was on it for about 15 min as rain came in and killed all the wind. I watched plenty of videos and first 10 min didn't use the Fynyix depower but since I wasn't succeeding on getting up on board, I decided to try it.
It made a significant difference. I hooked it, depowered the pw and it stayed on the edge. Without my hands on it, I was able to get on the board and then up on my knees. That's when I grabbed the bar and stood up. I couldn't get on foil as it was gusty and it was really my first time but my first impression of the push bar system is very positive. I know people initially struggle with getting up and I had no problem doing that.
Not enough wind to try it again but hopefully next week.

My only negative feedback were the lines. Most pws these days come with one line which then splits into many. Fynix doesn't do that and I guess it's because they want the bar to have more friction when depowering so it stays in its place.
Anyway, can't wait to try it again.

Just saw Matt on Foil review of the Sroka. Very poor review. So much so that he won't touch it again. You don't see that often . Concept works but several unfinished details

Seems like a solution in search of a problem. One of the cool things about a parawing is how simple and easy it is to sheet in and out. Why complicate it?

I watched a bunch of videos and it looks like the Fynix system does exactly the same job as the PAL thing on the PPC Orbit. Specifically it pulls and releases the trailing edge lines (Z lines).

The Orbit does this with with a single line from the trailing edge down to a mini-cleat at the back end of the bar, operated and set by hand. ie. You shorten or lengthen the Z lines with your free hand whenever you want and the setting stays where you put it.

The Fynix has the A and B lines pass through the bar and attached to the harness hook. You shorten or length all the lines by pushing or pulling the bar but the Z-lines stay the same. It's a lot more complicated, probably much more prone to wear, but possibly more intuitive as long as you're hooked in. You'd only have full power unhooked, which is not a problem if you're going downwind or stowing or whatever.

The PPC video with the Nova designer says they came up with a super-complicated bar system, but the PPC crew came up with a much simpler system. I'm guessing that Nova tried the Fynix style bar and that was the complicated one.

You can see the Fynix bar doing its trailing edge thing at the 50 second mark in this video:

Interesting development for sure. Wouldn’t discount it straight up - we’ve all done that before. Be interesting to see once refined, if the change of angle of attack over such short lines has any true benefit.
