Maybe this applies: In really light wind, with a large/wide wing, there is less wind near the water surface compared with the upper wing tip, so when you pump real hard to start to accelerate, as you trim out to re-grab some wind, beware of rotating the wing to be too much in front of you. Else the lower wing tip backs and you might run over it. It's kinda impossible at times, which is why it's so difficult to pump a wide wing. eg1. with a small foil that lifts off late. eg2. with a long mast that wont let you easily pump the foil up.
It's a good thing in a way because it shows you are pushing yourself and learning, as Winston Churchill said it's not winning or losing but having the courage to go on. Some wings have a large wingspan which will factor depending on your height, so you need to learn to bring it in close to get the power when you are just flying straight along but like David John said you need to lift your arms up, it can feel tiring at first but your body will adapt, if it really gets to you try a wing with a shorter wing span - that's my 2c
