Hi there,

We're an English family planning a trip to Sydney and Whitsundays / Queensland islands in March/April 2007 and would appreciate any help about windsurfing.

We're both keen windsurfers - Husband sails a Mistral Screamer 101L and I sail a JP Excite Ride 135.

Are there any island resorts in this area that are family friends but also provide great windsurfing kit?

thanks a million

for free sailing (flatish water) it is very good. i don't think any of the islands have any decent gear for rent and the ones that do sometimes won't let you take it out if the wind gets over 15knots..
so take your own.

thanks Curac - we def won't be able to take our own as there is no way we could carry 2 sets of kits alongside our luggage and 3 year old... all the way from England, especially as we indeed to travel around a bit

Do you know which of the Islands have the best kit?

It will be a family holiday rather than a windsurfing holiday (we tend to go to Turkey or Egypt for those) but it would be great if we could get the odd day of windsurfing in.

thanks for your help

unless the islands made a change in the last couple of years and started suplying good kit. i think hamalton island has the best.
compared to what people said about the other islands kit.
if you look up the islands resorts on the web and send them an e-mail or call them they will be able to tell you for sure what they have.
but last time at hamo they had a couple of fairly recent race sails and some piece of **** freeride board type thing.

Beautifull part of the world and a pretty good time of the year to go. You will most likely have good wind at that time as well. Unfortunately there are no resorts which offer good WS equipment. Also, most resorts aren't located at the windward side of the islands, which makes it pretty difficult to sail. One exception is Club Med Lindeman Island, which I consider to be the best resort for windsurfing. It has pretty good bump n jump conditions when the tradewinds are on. It is also a great family resort. They got a new set of Bic Veloce boards from 105 to 150 ltrs.which looked ok when I was there last April, but their sails where still the same as when the club opened 14 years ago. You could have alot of fun if you would just take a couple of sails along (5.5/6.5) as you could use their masts and booms. As it is quite windy you won't need to fight the gear with other guests. No point taking anything longer than 2 mts along as JETSTar simply wont take it on their planes as I found out standing at the checkin counter....
