Hi,

Not sure if other people know about this or not, but I just found a 7 day wind forecast for Coolangatta. Here it is:
www.windfinder.com/forecast/coolangatta?utm_source=www.windfinder.com&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=redirect

Seems relatively accurate, and a bit more pessimistic in the long range than Seabreeze... I think Seabreeze puts some greens up at the end of the week to get your hopes up!!

Cheers,
Ben

I know, tell me about it!! I bought another board a couple of days ago (I now have four) and have been itching to try it out... this one's 105 litres, so my weight + 20 kg's = board volume. Apparently this is the magic formula, this thing is designed for waves which is where I want to get to eventually.

I was so desperate today that I went out to Cabarita in that sh!tty 10 knot breeze and practiced my starts... it's like learning to sail all over again compared to my big old slalom board. Get the angle of the board wrong as you start and you end up in the water!
Also I haven't figured out deep water starting, can't get the damn mast out of the water. My F2 virtual trainer DVD doesn't show that crucial step, it begins with the sail nicely positioned upwind of the board and out of the water. I tried a number of times in deep water to get the damn mast up but couldn't.

Perhaps I need to lean the boom against the back of the board? Any ideas? Frustrating as all heck when I wipe out over the big hole (there's an area that's dredged in the lake) and have to swim the board and rig to the edge of the hole to start again...

Some folk like to swim up to the tip of the mast and lift it out of the water so the water runs off and lets the wind under it, then work their way down to the boom. Often i swim the equipment around so it's side on to the wind, and pull the boom up onto back of board, put my back foot in the rear footstrap while my front leg dangles straight down in the water as an anchor to try and slow the drifing down, then with what will become my front hand - grab the boom near the mast and pull it all accross my body. It gets everything out of the water nice and quick. Sometimes I might grab the mast halfway up the sail and javellin it out of the water. Sort of depends on how much time u got and how tired u are. I think boom on back of board is the least tiresome, but u gotta have a relatively low boom setting.

Cheers

You bast@rd!!! NOOOO!!! Do you go to Lake Ainsworth to sail, or out in the surf? Are there any flat water spots down there? I'm still learning the ropes...

G'day Nebbian the river at ballina is best for flat water not bad for learning, just watch the tides or Byron if ya don't mind a bit of chop or swell. With Cabarita or Ainsworth the winds always sh#tty and goin round in circles.
Anyway U would've got the 12-20kn southerly up there today shoulda got ya goin.
