Severe Weather Warning
for DAMAGING SURF
for Norfolk Island.
Issued at 5:28 am NFT on Friday 18 September 2026.
DAMAGING SURF conditions to develop early this morning, then ease during the
day.
Weather Situation
A low pressure system well to the south of the Island is generating a large
southwest swell that is expected to arrive this morning, then easing during the
day.
Damaging surf conditions, with waves exceeding 5 metres in the surf zone, may
produce significant beach erosion particularly about south facing beaches.
The Norfolk Island Police advise you:
- * Keep clear of fallen power lines, stay indoors away from windows and keep
children indoors
- * Stay out of the water and stay well away from surf-exposed areas
- For emergency help in storms, ring the Norfolk Police on 000 or +6723 22 222.
The next warning will be issued by 11am NFT.
This warning is also available through Radio broadcasts or the Bureau's website
at www.bom.gov.au. The Bureau and Norfolk Island Police would appreciate this
warning being broadcast regularly.
