What's everyone's thoughts on this? Possible in a land like Australia? We're not exactly the Amazon rainforest.

I read this a while ago, and it got me thinking on the whole subject. Just how they came to such a number I have no idea.

'There are around 100 uncontacted tribes in the world, Survival International estimates, of which more than half are in the Brazilian and Peruvian Amazon.'

I very much doubt there are any undiscovered, but there are plenty who have had minimal contact with the white fella and speak virtually no english

Isolation is the reason of course.
The Amazon is the size of Australia minus WA.
There's not exactly freeways running through it.
BTW, how do they know there are 100 uncontacted tribes if nobody has made contact ?

Exactly.

Personally I think they should just be left alone.

How the fk do I get a red thumb for that? From somebody in Sydney or Melbourne no doubt.
Considering I and a number of workmates have first hand knowledge of tribes that literally don't speak English, and are living currently in Australia, maybe you'd care to contribute? Love to hear you refute that.

Yeah thought not.

I've spent some time working in Halls Creek and stints down in Balgo in recent years, from memory some communities like Balgo and Mulan only had first real contact with Catholic missionaries about 50 years ago, but between the Catholics, mining exploration companies, cattlemen, pioneer aviators and misguided Swedish tourists in Britz 4WD's I seriously doubt there are any that haven't had any contact at all with us white folk.

So no idea on the red thumbs either Mark???

Mark, it's the dogooders with their politically correct bullsh1t that may find something remotely offensive in your comment. Somehow they think white fella is refrence to black fella. Got me knackered and I'm from Syd-a-ney.

they are at least 10.000 years here, and at home
do they need to comply ?
If Chinese will conquer this country in next 20 year ( or buy it for hard cash) will you be so quick to learn mandarin ?

^^ Macro I never said they need to do anything, certainly not 'comply'.
All I said was there are those in Oz who scarcely speak English as they are so far out there and have little contact with white folk.
Stating fact - and peeps are reading into it, it would seem....??

In first place:
-we just killed those natives ( across the World) that do not believable in our God
-then we discriminate them because them because they are not proficient in our language
-then maybe prosecute them because they do not pay Us our taxes and adhere to our law
??
Well, from your point of view you may see those request valid since your sense of superiority

for me neutral observer it is not so obvious

its called WINNING

Still the odd bit of human munching up in PNG they reckon. probably some pretty untouched tribes up there. Australia not vegetated enough. too much farming gone on all over. But there is footage of the last black fella tribe too see white man from the woomera rocket range and the chichgirl in it is still alive and was talking about it on the teev the other night. thought that was pretty special.

last ones in our area were 2 brothers back in 1987. they had seen aircraft from a distance but not white people.
but there is a large area of thick forest just to the south of us with very few roads that the locals wont go into as they know that the little people who lived there are still in the area.
theres no facts to back it up , just the passed on knowledge

The question was "could there be undiscovered tribes...?"

Go push your barrow about racism somewhere else, maybe start a thread about it, cos this thread is not about that from what I can see.

Easy
These people may live in peace for a thousands of years in same place from generation to generation.
That is their home.

as a neutral observer you must spot instant contradiction in such statement.
Tribes like that existed for a thousand of year in same place.
That is not their fault that they have been ' undiscovered'.
But that obviously mistake on our side doesn't prevent you from taking ownership of their land...
?

Now Mark think twice !

One day my mates will come from over-solar system to discover this planet "almost completely inhabited"

With such Earth Iron Core we should proceed with digging instantly.

There is not much life forms detected on the surface.

Should we proceed ?

there would be none in Australia who are undiscovered.

There are many in Australia who dont speak any form of english

To enlarge the Indigenouse World it is best practice, to keep

some people in small remote groups and have them learn nothing

except old tribal language which stops them from communicating

leaving then as relics of a by gone year.

its is an alternative world making big money for some

and in a way keeping some as indentured slaves

As for how Mark got red thumbed, I thought that was pretty damn weird too? WTF

Back on topic.

There was Warri and Yatungka, Last of the Nomads in 1977.
aso.gov.au/titles/documentaries/the-last-of-the-nomads/clip1/?nojs

Also there is the Pintubi 9 who came "out" of the desert W of Kintore/Kiwikurra in NT in 1984.
simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pintupi_Nine
I've heard that the 1st "modern" music they heard was on a Walkman and it was Midnight Oil!

As for now, I don't think so. I've lived out "there" in many very remote communities for lotsa years and there are stories and rumours of relatives who don't want to come in but no proof.

As for 1st contact I have met some of the Pintubi 9 and some older ladies whose 1st contact was a plane and then "Aboriginal Protector". They are all similar stories in that they were $hit scared. Now they are embarrassed and laugh at themselves for their ignorance and nudity. Go figure?
