I never realised how ****ed WA was until this forum. I'm serious.

We've been robbed on the Gold Coast twice and both times they left a note and a box of chocolates.

Are you sure it was chocolate?

Something to consider if you keep weapons in the house is the intruder might take it off you and use it on you.

Nothing like having a good sized dog around the house.

I agree with you! I keep my firearms unloaded in my rifle safe in the WIR of my bedroom. I hope I will have enough time to get myself ready.... that the reason of the perimeter alarm. I have other defence means left aground the house in no obvious spots!
I will defend myself and family if I need to! I will face the law after if I need too!

Two overnight home invasions in Perth

Home invaders have bashed an elderly couple in Perth and in another incident a young couple barricaded themselves in their bedroom as intruders smashed through their front door.

A 73-year-old man and his 68-year-old wife were at home in Maylands in Perth's inner east at around 10.30pm (WST) on Wednesday when three men with towels covering their faces forced their way in, police said.

The couple were punched in the head and threatened with a large screwdriver as the offenders demanded money, Sergeant Gerry Cassidy said.

He said one offender stayed with the couple while the other two spent about an hour ransacking their home before the trio fled with money, a mobile phone and a camera.

The couple were taken to hospital for treatment of head injuries.

In another home invasion only hours later at Morley in Perth's inner north early on Thursday a young couple heard their front door being smashed in and quickly barricaded themselves in their bedroom, Sgt Cassidy said.

When the offenders could not get in through the bedroom door they went back outside and smashed the bedroom window, he said.

The couple called police from their bedroom and the offenders fled before officers arrived.

Police were investigating whether the two attacks were committed by the same offenders.

if u have weapons be prepared for them to be used against you. And most people who take weapons to fights or have them incase some breaks in arent generally the bravest of people and when it comes down to smashing a junkie they get scared!

never try to tackle an intruder.

the first thing they do is take your kitchen knife and put it in their sock.

the desperate junkie is likely to stick that in you !!!!!

get a dog and look after it , if you want protection.

How far would you go to stop intruders to bash you and your family in your house?
I just installed a perimeter alarm that will let me know if an intruder is around the house (sensors are outside the windows) before he can break in. I will have some time to be sure that I am ready to receive the bastard the way it deserves! Trust me I will make him squeal like a pig with a baseball bat up his bottom or a 12 gauge in his nostrils! But I won't get bashed…… I hope![}:)]
Call me red neck if you want!

I'm a bit of a linux freak and a few years ago I found some software called zone alarm. I had this mad idea of hooking it up to my spear gun so that it would spear an intruder and send the video to me via email while I'm on holidays in Noosa.

A youtube vid of a crim squealing, with a spear through his torso, steeling my stuff would get heaps of hits..

Seriously, I'd hate to feel really scared of where I live, to the point of reinforcing your house - maybe you should consider moving interstate or somewhere where you feel safer?

Don't disagree with you about taking a weapon to a fight but arming yourself during a break-in has got nothing to do with being brave, it's about protecting my home, my family and what's mine. Don't know about you but if i hear someone coming into my home i'd rather have something in my hand than just standing there saying take what you like. Chances are your going to cop a flogging if you come face to face with them regardless. I'd rather be the one doing the flogging and no i wouldn't hesitate for a second to have a swing at anyone who wasn't invited in my home.

good luck walking around with a kitchen knife in your sock... hahaha

Like adolf says, I'd hate to feel afraid where I live. I've been here in the 'burbs for about 25 years. Yes, we did get a couple of things stolen from the yard back when we didn't have fences. And we've had one break-in while we were away on holidays where they took a small TV and some cheap jewelry (sadly worth far more in sentimental value than monetary).

Meanwhile, I leave my boat out on the driveway unlocked, complete with portable outboard. Gates are unlocked. Shed full of tools is unlocked. No dog. No concerns about going out at night for a walk or bike ride (until I get to the highway on the bike. Then it's another story). No problem.

I think I'd move if I had to barricade myself in.

In a previous life, I worked in a maintenance crew in a steelmill. One of guys used to collect all of the old washers that were normally thrown away.
Seems he had one of those large (20 litre or so) 'beer can' money boxes, the type that are printed as a beer can and completely sealed except for a small slot on the top, big enough for a 50c piece.
His theory was that most house burglars are looking for quick cash and would probably not be able to pass up a large money box full of coin. Given the weight of one of these babies (even when they are half full), the scumbag thief would probably not be able to carry anything else.
His only regret was not being able to see the look on their faces when the 'prize' was opened.

^^^That's pure gold!

He didn't by any chance get a job with the USA treasury did he? Seems they thought they had more money than they did, maybe just beer-can moneyboxes full of washers too!?

Once I was bored at work so I used the flash printer they had in the marketing dpt, It was one of the first that could do 2 sides (few years ago) and I printed couple of pages of $ 100 and $ 50 notes, I made them look old and used to make them in a neat roll that I would leave laying on the coffee table hoping that if some sheet for brain would break in he would take the lot and run vert happy!
They were really good looking I fooled a few mates.... at a party I had them all in a bowl on the table with a note reading "free money take what you need" was fun till someone told me I could spend years in jail for forgery so I burnt the lot!

^^^ admitting to something like that on a public forum is a good way to spend years in prison for counterfeiting.

So, the west has nice weather and good beaches.

But:

- the surf is full of bad tempered locals who will vandalise vehicles and assault people.

- home invasions are so common that (so called) law abiding people have weapons all over the place.

- innocent bystanders (and sometimes not so innocent) are charged and found guilty of murders they did not commit.

Fritz the Cat was a naughty little pussy. Do you know where I can get a copy of the movie??

A few other alternate movies I would like to get hold of are:-
"Zachariah" - The First Electric Western, featureing Country Joe and the Fish.

Zabriskie Point and The Road to Salinas.

Love WA. one of the safest places in the world you can live. I have personally never felt unsafe and I certainly have no need to brandish any weapons, especially firearms. I also wonder if those with firearms would actually have the clear headedness and calm to use one without either giving over the gun to the intruder or accidentally shooting themselves or a loved one.
