The local park near my work has 2 groups running boot camp. Every morning, every evening. Groups of 10. In summer they start at 5am and continue till about 9, then start again mid afternoon and run till 7. Shorter hours and less people in Winter. The car park is full of their clients cars and the trainers park on the oval. The (council supplied) exercise equipment is constantly in use and even the footpath is generally being used as a lap track.
They're noisy, create traffic disruption and PREVENT other people from being able to use their local ammenities and I'm sure it's a very profitable little business. I'm not sure if they pay fees or not, but they should.

Out of interest do local footy / cricket clubs etc pay a fee for using local ovals. I know the dog agility club has to.

Are driving instructors paying special fees to operate a buisness on the roads???
What about boat instructors?
Surf clubs should pay as well for training nippers if we fall in that trap!
What a lot of crakadoodle money grabing bastard councils! What about car detailers?????

Drivig instructors are a registered business and pay higher rego fees. The same would be with boaties. Surf clubs are operated by councils. Car detailers are smart and don't tend to operate from public spaces but on private properties and they move around alot which makes it hard to catch them.

Yes but not to councils!

Maybe driving instructors should be charged a fee by the council as a regular road user they are without doubt wearing out the road.

As a member of the public and using 'public' property I find the idea absurd that a council would charge its ratepayers.... Yes, if the PT has to pay a fee to council to take the students there he will pass it on to his students who already flippin pay for the park in the first place.

Crikey, come to my area there's hardly a spot left in any beachside park at 6am. And that's great...... It's what they are there for.

Councils receive a majority of funds for building roads from the Federal Govt.
I'm sure the PT would meet at the park.

Just being the devil's advocate here.
If someone was operating a business regularly from a common point is probably when these charges would come into play.

If anyone is operating as a business, then they are required to pay their dues.

yep............. taxes.

How many PTs are chargin on the books though? I'd say most are doing it as a second job & getting paid in cash. Although I don't condone new fees & taxes, with the climbing rate of 'professional' businesses using public equipment, I agree that they should pay a fee. Otherwise they can find a privately owned patch of land somewhere & pay a lease like the rest of us.

If you can afford a PT then you can afford to pay .

even buskers in the mall have to pay a fee so why not PT's

If a person is under instruction from a PT and that person gets hurt, then I would say the PT is partially responsible as he/she has a duty of care to their client to ensure they are using the equipement correctly and within their physical means.

Our local council (Wanneroo) have put exercise machines in many parks for the locals to use, and the Wanneroo council also put free "get fit" classes on in council run gymnasiums, the one we go to also organise and promote free classes in the parks using the machines.

If a profit making P.T. decided to move in and make use of the equipment paid for by the ratepayers, its only fair that the P.T. be asked to contribute to the upkeep of the equipment that was paid for by ratepayers.

They are responsible, part of the registration fee for being a qualified personal trainer is insurance in case you hurt a client, least that's the way it worked when I was a PT.

PT's are wankers anyway, make em pay.
