I thought kids did it in the hope of catching two lines at once, so they could sit back and watch the sparks.
But are modern kids really that stupid??????
Untwisting a coat hanger into a long piece and throwing that up has better results for sparks until the wire burns out.
back in the old days we would tie a couple of yards of fencing wire to a big kite( remember proper kites) and fly it up to the lines Good SParks!
When we did it on the HT lines to mandurah We put the line out and my mate blew off a toe nail( that woz real funny later
