Hilarious article in New Scientist for a potentially ground breaking energy source

FORGET conventional solar power - the world's energy needs could be met 100 billion times over using a satellite to harness the solar wind and beam the energy back to Earth. Focussing the beam could be tricky, though.

What could possibly go wrong?

They can send a bit my way! I have had the kite up once in five months and that was on a landboard.

Did you read about that connection with the explosion in Russia and Tesla's attempt to demonstrate lighting up the sky over the artic? Who will ever know what happened there but it was that big that they heard it 680 kilometers away.

Imagine if Al Qaeda had had the controls on 9/11?

The more I read about it the more I realise that this guy must actually have been able to visualise energy.

By all accounts he had no posessions and always lived in a hotel. How good would it be to see inside someone like Teslas head?

Reckon it would be a real trip!

We already have free electricity, but have to pay for the infrastructure to harness it.
Look at thermal, solar, turbines, hydro all of which give free electricity but the infrastructure is what is costing the money and there isn't ever going to be a way to get around that no matter which way you try to capture energy.

Based on that logic all energy is free isn't it?

No not all energy is free, only renewable energy, so things like coal powered power stations, natural gas, nuclear etc all consume a non renewable resource. When it runs out so does the power, with wind, hydro and solar we are just harnessing natural energy and changing the state in to what we need, and it will last forever.

Not true, just a different timescale. All energy is free and natural and no one source is infinate (although energy itself is a constant). Wind/hydro and Solar all rely 100% on solar energy from the sun, which is just a big nuclear reactor. It will run out, but not quickly enough to effect us too much. Fossil Fuels are just storage mediums for the suns energy.

The challenge is which use of energy is most cost effective to harness and distribute and has least impact on us and our environment.

pfffft, fossil fuels.... talk about a paradox

oil is abiotic, coal is too, and so is gas..

produced by the earth, not dead dinosaurs

oil is earths blood

gas is earths farts

coal is earths scabs...

if the west ever needed proof oil was abiotic, deep water horizon was it..

50-70,000 psi at a depth of somewhere between 35-50,000 ft...

how exactly did dinosaur juice get to that pressure that far down...?

OMG! Somehow Tesla must hav invented a time portal back to SB threads from 2008! Talented for a nutless, nailess, urban hermit weirdo.
