Exposing the deliberations and dealings of "our" representatives can only be healthy for democracy. If they are doing nothing wrong then they should not fear exposure. If they are doing wrong then they don't deserve to represent us unless we are happy for them to do wrong. If they are our representatives then they should be prepared to be open about everything they do on behalf of us.

Coincidentally this is almost exactly the same argument they gave us when the current government were talking about net filtering and logging a little while ago. Sucks when the shoe's on the other foot, hey [}:)]

Its a moral minefield that I dont think there is a hard and fast solution to
Certainly I think Manning is wrong if he is guilty of betraying trust
Assange? Well he is assuming that he is totally right in spreading the betrayed trust
which if he hadnt done so would not be betrayed trust hmmmm

If Manning and Assange are in the wrong for betraying trust then many members of parliament and almost all cabinet ministers are in the wrong too coz they betray the trust placed in them as representatives of their constituents.

That's what being a representative should be all about.

Sounds to me that you are saying that governments and their representatives should not have private conversations and deliberations at all. Well, our ones anyway

Has anyone actually viewed wikileaks.org?

We're not just talking about Kevin calling someone a douche in an email.

There's some serious stuff being exposed by wikileaks. Underhanded stuff that we're being lied to about.

Evil, murder and dishonesty should never be buried.

After reading some stuff I realise why things are being manipulated to shut Assange up.

Oh I don't know. Exposing some diplomat's opinion of the French president, not really relevant and simply embarrassing.

Exposing the top US installations "critical to US security", aka a list of "Great targets for Terrorists", probably quite damaging.

Amnesty International asked Julian not to publish some names in Afghanistan, he agreed but only after they'd already been published.

There's some good information that's come out, but I believe some information should remain confidential for good reasons.

If the powers that be knew this sort of information would get out then perhaps they would not start these wars in the first place.

It will be interesting when they get down to the minutes of discussions on the invasion of Iraq. If government was open to the people it rules, how many of them would start a war? I doubt even the National Socialist government of Germany would have started a war if the German people had known the trickery and deceitful behaviour government agents were committing to start a war, a war few Germans wanted.

I used to read Wikileaks a bit back when it was in a wiki format but haven't really looked at it since it became mainly a system of submitting documents.
