Gina and her cohort are doing nothing for the country but digging great big holes - like we need more.

How about investing in training so some locals could get skilled up and employed, or investing in some of the great aussie ideas that have to go offshore to get capital - nah better off diggin holes and spending the cash on influencing the political process.

Her being allowed to import workers, that had me shaking my head. The thin end of the wedge is what that is and the wedge is headed in one direction only.

I always hated American politics but it is uncanny how what happens over there is repeated over here.

I too shook my head at the allowance of 1700 foreign workers but there are just not enough skilled Australians WILLING to head out to the Pilbara to take those jobs. And it's a 9 billion dollar project that will create a lot more jobs for the country.

But how about every dollar spent employing a foreign worker needs to matched with an equivalent 'tax' to be invested in mining training, or to pay some relocation allowances for all those Victorians losing their manufacturing jobs?

And what if every dollar spent on building mining infrastructure need to be matched at say 20% on public infrastructure - the Roy Hill project alone would probably fund several schools, a few regional hospitals, a significant chunk of the pacific highway extension etc etc

Can someone please explain the impact of the MRRT on Gina Reinhart's revenue stream, which is largely a royalty on a lot of iron ore shipped from the Pilbara as well as income for Hancock Prospecting from the Hope Downs JV.

The Roy Hill project of Hancock Prospecting is not in production. It's not even in construction, and at this stage, would not be subject to the tax... in fact, my guess is that it would be a revenue offset for Hancock Prospecting, if that is allowed under the MRRT, it wasn't under Kevin's RSPT.

Gina is an individual and not a company, and I guess will be treated as such under the law...

I think the strategy of cutting tall poppies may gain some momentum with the Lab's grass roots supporters, but not widely. Divisive politics just does not seem to work... What do we like to say on here - play the ball, not the man.
