I was going to get straight back into it but decided on appeal (from my daughter) that I would have some time off. I had the school hols off and as the summer we never had appeared I had a 2 month break just SUPing, relaxing with the family etc.
I had been keeping an eye out for local jobs and applied for a couple. Two I was way over qualified for but went through the process for the experience.
The one I was after (with a very well known retailer that advertises a lot ;-))I was accepted for but then found out it included weekend work. Stuff that at my age with a family.
Then the job I am at now came up and it was a long 3 weeks of waiting with the odd email then the interview process and finally acceptance.
If you can afford it then definitely take the time off. After that long in the one place you need to recharge and re-assess.
I just wish my experience had happened in October cause then I wouldve taken the whole of summer off.

A little while back I got offerred a 'promotion' - but it involved night shift AND weekend work so I knocked it back.

One job I was in a while back, I got a promotion, that consisted of new business cards with a better sounding title. No extra money, job didn't really change - how miserable is that?

Well another interesting thing happened today.

Had an interview with the good place. A place I've been courting for a few months.

The thing was that they were not interested in me for the role I had in mind. They looked at my C.V. and saw something else in my skills that I had not even considered. Something that age and experience can only deliver.

It wasn't a 4 day a week role sitting in front of a computer looking at code, moving that, changing this and loseing that.

It was far broader, which has really opened my eyes into another realm of thought about what my actual skills are. Thinking about this role now - I have absolutely no problems with a 5 day week doing what they had in mind.

Another interview with them Monday - bring it on.

Even if this gig doesn't eventuate, it's allowed me to think out of the box. Telling that f'tard how it is and quitting my cruisy job, is looking like a life changer for the better already.

Thankfully I wasn't on the scrap heap for too long. Ended up getting contracting work at the good place, to see how I work out - which suits me fine. Will be working from their office, just down the road from where I am now. Really looking forward to my next chapter.

I'm a sub-contractor so always looking for the next opportunity. It can be quite stressfull wondering where the next job will come from. I tend to stress less the longer I do it.
