Get a Macbook dude, Turn the wireless off and the screen down and you can get the battery to last for 7 hours lol... Wireless on and surfing the net you get 4 hours...

The mac genius's are always friendly and the service centers are always awesome to work with.

PLUS - You can download any program you want for them too i got Microsoft Office: Mac and all the Adobe CS3 programs like flash, illustrator and photoshop off the net...

Toshiba and Dell are both good laptop manufacturers, yes, they both make the item they sell... mostly anyway.

If you want to run Vista, and you can get it to run sweetly, you'll want a high-spec machine... don't bother for under $2k IHMO, and I'd turn off the bells and whistles of the Aero Interface... it's a gimmick... but the OS itself is pretty solid since SP1.

Go for XP if you have old software that you want to continue to use, without getting updated versions, unless you've seen it proven to work under Vista.

Get a Mac if you think a muscle car only needs four cylinders, work in advertising/media, and you don't really need to work or interface in the real World.

Get Linux if you're a self aspiring elitist that knows everything, brew your own beer, and grow your own weed.

Aways friendly coz they don't have any friends.

Awsome to work with coz they're desperate for your business.

Mac software is just as pirated as Windows.

OK which one of you uber-nerds swiped my pocket protector?!?

Freakin lap-top salavatin gumbys!

Stay away from Sony n Mac - overated underperforming and waaaaayyyy overpriced.

Keep it simple - go cheap (cheap lappys are everywhere these days) buy a decent back up drive (in case the cheapie lappy carks ) and spend the other 2/3 of your budget on kiting gear instead, then laugh at the nerds.

If you want easy convenient mobility for navigation, then go for on of the subnotebooks, 10" or less, most of them are optioned with XP. eg Eee PC, Aspire One, etc.

Do you need a serial port for GPS input? If so, get yourself a USB-RS232 adapter... otherwise you'll have to go for a niche notebook which will be expensive.
