hi guys, i have a 155x40 torquay hog, and ive found that its a bit too narrow for my size being roughly 90-95,
ive found a 136x46 and was wondering whether this would be a bit better cause of its width but was worrieed that it might be too short?

technique will help... get that right and the width won't really matter.....depending on a few variables tho.

I think Stabber might have it. I am pretty much the same weight as you (92 kgs) and a 40 cm wide board should not be an issue for you. I ride bindings now but even that board is only 42 cms wide. My old foot strap board is 131 x 39 and I never had an issue on that either. You only need wider boards really for more stable landings when taking tricks to blind etc. or perhaps for a light wind board.

Not sure of the problems your having or why you feel it is too narrow. If you explain what's happening you might find it isn't the board at all. Can't really say without knowing.

hey joel, i'm 75kg and recently learned on a 135 X 47. it was great for light winds and getting upwind once i could edge, but as i got faster it was harder to hold an edge at the top of my kite's wind range. so the wide board will be good for a while, and may be nice as a light wind board later on.

as for length, you just have to keep the board between you and the kite and find the right balance between front and back foot. less room for error on a shorter board, but in my experience 135 was no problem.

but if they're ok designs then either board should be fine. if it feels too small you may just need to point it a bit further downwind as you first dive the kite, so you get some speed as you waterstart before setting an edge and steering back to a cross-wind course.

your instructor should be able to help, and offer a few boards to try too,

go well, dojo
