Just been back from oversea after a couple of years..
I have good water sports, snow sports, and skydive skills, I had years ago experience with power kite, my weight is 80 kg and live now in W.A
Thinking to buy a kite that I could use pretty much everywhere with anything if want to, on the snow, the water, on land with buggy!
I looked around, first I was thinking of kite with cells but I am worry about the water, also was thinking of a 13 or 15 in size as it would be used mainly on a 11-18 kts wind.
I found the "Best Waroo 2009", and Peter Lynn "Guerilla II" is any of you had experience with thoses kites yet? Or any of you have any suggestions to make on kites and sizes for me I would be very happy to hear them ;)
Also I am looking for a buggy too! Any around?
Thanks guys

Hi David

Talk to Neil Taylor at "Hold the Line Kites" in Wembley. 9387 5676.

He has buggies, foils and pump-up kites, and a heap of experience in the Buggy dept.

PL foils have come a long way since the Guerilla!

Cheers

Hi David,

You know these are two totally diffent kites. I have had PL venoms which would be great to use on both water/land. I currently have two 09 Waroos, which although fly great, easy to use etc I have had lots of bladder problems and think the general build quality is questionable, so I'm not sure how long they would last on land.

Some one have a Flysurfer 10m Speed 2 for sale in the buy & sell section.
Flysurfer and Peter Lynn are the kites that you can use on the water as well as on the snow.
But Guerilla II is an open cell kite and you can't perform water relaunch with it.

Foil kites generally producing more power per square meters for example 10m foil kite is equivalent to a 12m LEI kite

Note 1: If your foil kite get smashed by a wave you have serious problem to relaunch it
Note 2: Self rescue is almost impossible with them

Suggestion: Buy a LEI kite for your kite surfing and spend ~$400 for an open cell kite for your buggy and snow and still you can save a little as Flysurfers are not cheap.

Alex,

i'm going to pull you up on a couple of your claims mate:

But Guerilla II is an open cell kite and you can't perform water relaunch with it.

1) The Guerilla II is not/was not "an open cell kite" as you claim. The Guerilla II was the precursor to Venoms & Synergy's & WAS NOT an open cell kite.
2) Self rescue is almost impossible with them....mate, you either have no idea what you're talking about or don't know how to fly PL kites.

Don't talk ****e...

Thanks board9898, I do realise they are different kites, but because I am new into kiting, I am digging! And it is a hard choice because I am looking for the freedom of the fun... not just been stock on water.. and I want to avoid bying two different kites! I realise there is no perfect kites that can do any kind of kiting. I am thinking doing more water, then land, then snow: 3/5, 2/5, 1/5
I have had lots of bladder problems and think the general build quality is questionable
What about you, are you doing only water with the Waroos? Why did you choose them for? Any other similar product, better quality around?? Anyone!!

FWIW I was talking to a french guy who lived near the pyrenees, snow kiting is pretty big there, it's Chasta's home ground etc..

He said everyone he knew just used their inflatos on the snow in winter, no probs. Occasional tear or bladder burst from a huge smack down but generally they work fine unless you want to be putting your kite up and down all the time (ie kite uphill, board down, repeat) then LEIs are a pain coz pumping and gloves don't mix so well.

The only thing is you need an inflatable that will back itself off the ground (ie not an older C kite) because they won't grip and roll over like they do on water. A waroo or any bow/SLE should work fine..

http://www.kite-surf.com/userreviews/list_reviews.php?Products_Index=1277

You were right about close cell but..
Apparently even the owners of "Guerilla II" who want to say that they love their kite are not giving it a good rate for water relaunch to it!

You are telling me that the foil kites are as easy as LEI kite for self rescue?
I guess we all can see who is talking ****e...

1-Its a pain in the neck to get your pump with your self to the ski resort.
I did it for my X-myth holidays and it sucked.

2-LEI kites are generally heavier than foil kites and it limiting your flight baggage weight as you have your board, boots, massive kite bag that they wont let you take it with you as a hand carried luggage because of size limits
If there is no wind you might have to carry your backpack all day and a heavy backpack will cause some serious damage.

3-You need a smaller kite for snow.

K I've got a plan! All from seabreeze:

Ozone Frenzy 5M and Mountain Board. Both in Perfect condition.
Low Use. No abuse / damage. Also good snow kite. $650 No offers please
Click here to send an Email, or Call Sundra in Collaroy, NSW on 0417226970

Then sell the mountain board to put towards your water kite. Frenzys are apparently the best snow kite around but I wouldn't know if that's true.. I know Chasta makes the great snowkite vids and he rides them.

Then buy this:
2008 Ozone Kites Edge II - 13 metre
Williamstown, VIC $1050
Awesome kite, excellent condition
Complete with bar and lines, kite, bag, and repair kit.

The 09 Ozones are just out so you can bargain for an 08, then you'll have a kick ass water kite that flies way better then a waroo (and toyota vs hyundai quality) and has a huge wind range.

Anyway, everyone has a different opinion on kite brands, that's just a not so serious idea..
Dave.

eh Dave, much appreciate for your search and post (all together it's not a bad deal!) and like you said "everyone has a different opinion "... that's why I am here asking to the experts! So 13 would be a good size for me then?
do you fly Ozone? maybe i's not a good idea!

peter lynn venoms are easy to relaunch off the water but you only have about 5-10 minutes to before they fill with water.
They are hard to put in the water to start with as they auto zenith, when you crash you let go of the bar and it stays up in the sky.
So if your looking for a cheap , low maintenance allrounder, kite get a 13 or 16 metre venom-
lots in the buy and sell

thanks Smedg... so you ride the waroo.. on water and land, what about the quality? (lets forget about the snow for now) I would appreciate your answer!
The problem I have no experience in kitesurfing, only waterski, snowboard and buggying .. I can fly a power kite, so I am not sure about the feeling of a stand up test at knee high, it ll take most probably more that just a quick test. I am a fast learner and don't want to change it after a month! I prefere to start hard and keep the kite.

come on guys, I am serious here .. I cannot believe only east coast is helping me here, I am in W.A!!
Straight now, I don't want a shop advise (as they probably will sale me anything) sorry, I want the pros out there that got the feel of it to make some comments. I want some people that have been riding with different brand!
I need 2-3 different ones so I got the choice! So far the Waroo or the Ozone...(but ozone need 2)
jj must be some other kites out there that can do water and land (let say open grass area, or beach) with all those brands on todays market

Thanks okin for the comment!

OK, To start with I am ozone biased. I learnt to kite in the UK with an old ozone foil kite on a mountain board and in buggies. I then switched to kite surfing and after a brief time flying Wipika kites I was back to Ozone when they introduced the instinct.

The Newer Ozone sport II and Light II are awesome both on the water and on the snow easy relaunching and good strong solid construction. I'd think about getting a ozone sport II 13m you should be good on land from about 13kts and up to about 28kts (thats when i move on to my 9m) on the water.

I hope that helps

Thanks okin for the infos on venom, I don't want to worry about the time to relaunch! But I keep this in mind, mmh I like the auto Zenith...
Cool it look like I am getting somewhere

LightII - 3 struts, purpose built light weight kite for wave riding and for general purpose kiting, will boost well in its upper wind range can give good hang time too if flown well (bar held in).

SportII - 5 strut one pump like the LightII, designed more for unhooked, but probably best as an allrounder/freestyle kite, also good in waves. Big boosting and very good hang time, less bar depower than the LightII

Both have an excellent bar and lines, both relaunch extremely easily, and both are easy and safe to self launch and self land.

My favourite light wind kite was the 14M LightII, and my favourite kite in 15-25 knots was the LightII 11M.

Cya and

Goodwinds
