I curious to know how many people have lost a board marked with their name and phone number on it, as well as the promise of reward if found written on it, but never had it returned?

As well as, how many beers has it cost you over the years getting a lost board returned to you?


I've lost my board twice, the first time, about a year ago, it was late arvo and quite choppy at Pinnaroo, normally I'm fine with board recovery, but on that day I just lost sight of it in the conditions.
Later on I got a call from an average punter Swimming at Mullaloo who had found it; got my board back and he got a carton of Crownies, all was sweet.

Yesterday I lost my board at Pinnaroo and still haven't heard anything about it, I would have expected a call by now if someone had found it, needless to say I'm suffering major separation anxiety!

So my tally on lost boards-

Lost my Airush Switch 138 at Pinnaroo Nov19, was found a week later north of Two Rocks. I was notified by a third party, but the dude won't return it to me. Rides a quad bike and works for the Wanneroo council.

Would like a return.

Lost mine at pinnas, no number or label, fisherman found it stuck in some rocks off ocean reef. Was Australian enuf to ring WAKSA. They posted on here and VWULLA! Got him a liquor land woolies group gift card for 30 gold. Hope u get yours.

have you spoken to him personally? Asked why he won't return it? If you act like a peanut you probably won't have much joy. Maybe ask politely DM (aks)to intervene as it's your local spot. He might be able to do what you can't do as he has a reputation there??? Just a thought.

minimum for any form of recovery should be $50 slab. If you can afford spending $$$ on gear you can afford a $50 slab.

Mate returned a board and got a 6 pack of ass beer. He should of kept it!

however I totally understand that it can be hard to find your board back in the chop. When the board is up side down and the sun is low with choppy waters, it can sometimes be really hard to spot it, specially when you've lost it quite far behind you.

Whenever i see I body in the water and a board floating I either stop and turn it the right way up so you can see the straps and if rider is close enough I push it downwind of them or make one or two passes giving them a point so they know where the board is.........

I sometimes like to wear a fairy outfit too.........

So how did you lose your board everyone is asking ?

I haven't lost my board for some time now but I have brought heaps back in for both noobies and experienced kiters, I'm happy to do it for no other reason than to get some good kite karma saved away in the bank for when I get in the poo. Another kiter at my local went out of his way and bought me a very unexpected carton of Becks today for helping him out a couple of time in the last few weeks, super stoked at that one .

I had two blokes bring my kite back in last season after an 'oops', I immediately bought the requisite beers but wasn't able to track them down afterwards, the best I could do was share the beers with other kiters on the beach instead.

Knowing the currents on your local beach can be a help too. Ive never lost a board and know how hard it can be to find in stormy seas and looking into the sun. But if you know your local pretty well you can guess where to look. Its worked for me 3 times. Had to drive in my car to find it.

Always give people a hand I say. Feels good for you and for them.

I don't know what the laws are in Australia, but in the UK you are required to report your findings to the police. If the property is not claimed after a specified period of time it's yours.

I can sympathise with not finding your board - sometimes you stack, get dragged downwind a bit and with the sun shining over your back you just can't see the board. I imagine that is a pretty common problem in WA with the sunset and the prevailing summer wind being from the same direction.

Some boards are just easier to see in the water, whether they have a bright colour scheme or even just sit lower in the water. eg. Never really had a problem with my Naish Sol but my Cab Custom is an absolute dog to find sometimes, even with a fluoro green rail.

Lost a board in Mandurah, a month later it was found by the ranger @ Rotto.

Reading with interest, I dont kite so I dont know but why wouldnt you use a leggie?
Even if it was a longboard one as they are quiet long.
That would negate you having to body drag to get your board back I would have thought.

No troll, Im interested as Ive been hit before by stray board before.
Not sure if it was a kiters board but there were alot of kites around that day and no-one surfing close to me at all. I was lucky I saw it.

PS That would have the most p!ss week troll in the history of the Breeze IF it was.
