A few of us have been there a few times over the last couple of weeks as its closer to home than Quinns. Dicko snapped a line near the wreck and i snapped my safety line the next day so maybe it is haunted It's definitely nicer than Quinn's and like quinns, its too far up north to get crowded. I know another one of the quinns boys wants to hit the waves but its a long way out and pretty sharky if things go pear shaped.

I think there's only 1 bloke who kites it regularly who lives in Shorehaven. It's unreal being able to pack up on grass and have a shower etc without sand everywhere. The park really is fantastic.

Yeh you'll be fine but not many people around to help you if something happens. No real reason to go past the wreck i guess?

Also watch out for dickeads on dirt bikes. Security bloke was telling me they'd had a few issues right in front.

Alkimos, for as long as I can remember, has always had a reputation for shark sightings.

I know a few who have paddled when they were young, only did it once and said it was way too far really. I have no doubt there are more shark sightings out there than other spots in Perth, good broken up ground. Ideal for fish and even bigger fish.
I'm more worried about the alkimos curse though haha. Have a bit of a google and you'll see all the weird stuff that happened to that ship over the years before she met her demise.

+1 for it being cursed, i creased my kiteboard out there (in saying that, it was a ripper session). another mate got a brutal gash on his hand on a surf trip out there after going over the cheesegrater. also flooded the motor on the tinny one time and had a nice little drift/attempted row around on dark before finally getting her going. could have been operator error though.

definitely shark country - not just a beat up by the surfers. take care, and probably best with a buddy.
try a downwinder quinns to two rocks some time with a crew and scope it all out without pressure of getting down drift of the break and into a few of the dry reef head sections. there is some areas of sick flatwater and kickers along the stretch too between stretches of chop.

Wreck is 430m out from memory and there's a marker at 200m. If i finish work early on Thursday i'll go up but otherwise it'll be friday / Saturday.

Hi Ericson I have surfed it often (even with you before) and have kited it a few times, I am a fairly experienced wave kiter but every time I have kited out there it has been disappointing.

Not the fact that it is a fair way out if you have trouble and that it is a pretty sharky place with a horror reef inside (the one my leggie got stuck on)but because it gets so choppy when the wind is up.

Not sure why but that whole area gets as choppy as but there is better breaks North and South of there.

How about just as a good spot to launch and land, and go in and out (not surf the reef), as an alternative to Quinns or Mullaloo. I'm not up to surfing it yet anyway.

I think its a better alternative to Quinns if you live up this way. Mullalloo appears good but its still a bit of a trek and Pinnaroo has always seemed so crowded. You pretty much have Claytons, Quinns or Leemo's but there will be loads of options when they open up the Eden Beach - Egglington stretch.

The area in front of the wreck isn't as choppy as Quinns, you have decent showers available, you can pack your gear up on the grass and the park is family and wife friendly. Not bad really.

On a 30 knot westerly there is a super flat section about 300m south of the wreck. This fat wave breaks and cleans up the ocean. No good for surfing close to the beach.

Never seen a shark, never had issues.

Jumped the boiler once, didn't reise the bow of the boat is just under the water.

Close call but all good.

On google maps is it directly out front of alkimos or shorehaven?

Yeah you can see the remnants of the wreck not very far out. Turn at shorehaven off Marmion and follow to the beach.

Shouldn't this be in the WA section

I've kited the alkimos reef a few times. Tighty is right . Its horrible. Cant speak for the inshore section.

That reef is nasty n sharp, sucks dry at low tide. Leash would have been good.
