I find it funny that people only talk about sharks when they're seen/attack - pretty sure they're always there - always have been and always will be...

Seriously, if you're only thinking about sharks being in the water now, you are pretty naive. Just as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, sharks will always be there.

Yep, theyre always around.

Fact is, there is more of them around this time of year.

Just one other person in the water reduces your chances of attack by 50%

could be time to kite with the crowds again

not a problem if u ride bindings

would you recommend/ not recommend bindings for a beginner? although I can body drag, i was thinking of the 'time saved' in board recovery. And a leash is obviously a poor choice.

My advice from my surfing days is to always be in decent proximity of someone heftier than yourself.

I figure the hungry grey bus will prefer to plow through the all you can eat section instead of the weedy lookin salad bar.

Hey Greenpat and Tightlines are you guys free for a downwinder this weekend?

I think you will find that sharks (like most wild animals) tend to pick off the smallest, slowest, weakest of their prey.

P.S. I should be up for a downwinder with you

If they only turn them on when needed that's frkn rediculous because most attacks the first you know about it they are chomping on you.

The question was, would you reccomend/not reccomend bindings for a beginner? The answer didn't require some longwinded explanation because it's a matter of opinion. Having, as you all point out, just recently learned to kite, I am indeed able to form an opinion on the matter. Would you suggest otherwise? But hey, what the **** do I know right?

i thought the thread was about sharks?
leashes are for boards into the back of the head, if you dont think it will happen you can wear one ok? i know from surfing some waves it will flick the board back into my waiting hand and other waves tombstone guaranteed!!!! im guessing board shape and density willl have alot to do with this and coz kiteboards are so varied ...well???
who cares
Sharks how ever

I propose that there are more sharks in the two to three meter range today than 15 years ago, as they are protected.

I say that it may be worth considering finding the breeding size and keep the numbers in check.
the latest victims have survived coz of the small size..2 to 3 meters... imagine if the shark were four to five meters and going for a taste test....coz that what they do.

In fifteen years time is that average size going to be more lethal???

with the advent of gps there are less reef fish in our local area and the predators are protected... Is there a big brain out there that knows a whites breeding size and their ability to exists without being the size of human nugget eaters.??
