Anyway moving on...

Out of interest, if Alex isn't right about being the pioneer of kite surfing who is??.

I know that's going to open a can of worm's, but it does interest me. Purely from what I read on this forum Darren and Steve would be up there.

Has anyone come across websites/info on the development and progress of kiting in Australia

If its any help there was a group of us here in Newcastle that were into buggying and mountainboarding in the mid/late 90's. We started sandboarding from one end of nobby's and dicko to the other and would do long body drags and jump off the waves with our land kites along the bar - merewether stretch ,pack up and do it again. One of the guys came in with an edition of 'Inside sport" with a photo of Elliot Leboe with a wipi classic and we just had to find out more .Tracked down the photographer in Hawaii (would you believe his name was Peter Sterling ) who put us in touch with wipi and Mat colefax turned up a few weeks later .The rest is history and yes Alex was getting into it with his pants and other crazy things like his 'bouncy shoes " from Sweeden pretty early on .
Kane Hartil from Christchurch was an inspiration but we just couldn't figure out how the NZ crew managed to kite (let alone kitesurf ) with C quads .(figured it out when we visited christchurch ,you can stand up most of the time in the poo pond estuary crashing a cquad wasn't so much of an issue.) Ran the first kitesurf event at Anna bay Birubi (the love in ) where just about anyone in kiting turned up . Dave ( speed man now),Dale torriero(that guy rips in the waves)and James from Melbourne Steve from kitepower ,Mat from Wipi ,Alex from Stonker , Youngie from Perth made the trip (and paid out on our crap wind .i'm with ya there Ian just took a while to figure it out and thanks for the downwinder idea what a blast) Ben Merk nearly fried my fourby in the dunes doing the chase (he was suffering from one of many of his kite injuries) plus a cast of many other early die hards (please insert names ) and yes EUROPANTS WAS THERE with his super 8 camera
One of the things that helped make it a blast was that 'oh so dangerous" land kiting in the light or crap winds

I never said I was the only pioneer, I said I was a pioneer.

when I bough my first power kite steve didn't even own a kite shop.

I gave a lot of my time and energy to get the sport where it is today. Not that anyone cares anymore. Helped dolls develope and Melbourne as well as Byron, thats years helping the local shops.
I have not sold an inflatable for over 6 years. Yet I do at least 10 lessons a week. already most of my customers have bought gear from steve and yet he still hates me ?? same thing happened with SHQ and RPS and they hate me as well. I don't get It!!! and they never throw lessons my way. the opposite actually happens.

Very dissapointed the way it has turned out.

Did lots of TV and News papers and now I have all that kite content to share with who ever wants to see it.

AM I SO BAD?????

Do yourself a favour GO AND BUY SOME BOARDIES it will do you the world of good and then I'm sure Steve will send lessons your way.
He told me he did not want to send lessons your way because of those ****y little hot pants you wear the student's will turn and run the other way I know I would.

Also stop eating those chorizo's they give you bad breath.
But apart from that you are the man you are the pioneer and you are the reason we are all kitesurfing LOL

Maybe its because you advocate (and evidently teach) dangerous kiting practices to newbies, and have no respect for safety. Did you ever think about that ?

(Hey! This post means I just voted to "Ban Sanz". WooHooo! Must be up to 40 ppl by now wanting you to go, Alex. You even voted against yourself - several times !!!!! )

And BTW, this forum is overloaded with males. I'd say its about 100:1 Male to Female. Its got a bit macho-gay IMHO. Where are the women ?

basically Alex is a better kiter than the groper and the groper is throwing the dummy out the pram. At least Mr Sans does not hide behind his RSVP.com.au codename.

The women are baffled I think. Except for the part where sanctions were promised for touching your Lego. That got my attention. I've got Lego and I am sick of everyone touching it, I really am.

On another topic - there are plenty of accounts of the history of kiteboarding, generally accepting that it came about with a number of different people all thinking the same thing, all over the world....unless you are reading a French source, in which case, it was all their idea and everyone else was just copying.

Another legend would have to be Col'n Carpenter. Possible not much of a kiter but. Man I used to love watching that guy. My favourite part was when he had to give someone (cop I think) his address.

This is what I like about forums. ^^^
Sometimes all the layers are stripped clean and the raw fresh is revealed and allowed to bleed.
I love the ego-tripping, the claiming, the praising of oneself....
the list of sacrifices made,
the bitterness,
the twistedness,
the demand for respect....
rightly or wrongly,
the begging for sympathy,
the cry of poverty,
the self-loathing,
the irony,
the injustice,
and best of all......
all the regret and disappointment.
You're not bad, man....
you're too good.
lol.

Alex I don't hate you. Others might, who knows, none of my concern.
Hates just not something I'm into, but I do think you are very deluded these days.
I started Kitepower back in 1993, I'm sure you will agree thats before you were into kites, I did not start in kites in Sydney, I bought the Coogee shop in 1998.
I had actually been into kites for a couple of years before opening the shop back in Geelong/1993, fairly sure it was around 1991/92 I got hooked (again). Making kites had been a big thing for me as a kid!

I remember the day quite well when I met you in Sydney. It was in Spring 1999 you had ordered a D-Wing (silly me no deposit taken). We went to a park in Maroubra, it was a gusterly, about 8-25 knots. I gave the kite to you for a fly and when you got a bit of a yank from it you freaked and let it go (2 line power kite, no leashes back in the day). Then you charged off after it and stomped on it and decided not to buy it, just left me with a kite with your bootprints on it, thanks! LOL's

You're a legend Alex thats for sure!
Pioneer, yeah (there were heaps of others), instrumental in the growth of kiting in Oz, not really, but please continue................

How is it I advocate dangerous kiting when I only teach with 1.5 to 3m kites??

I have been teaching for over 10 years and no seriose accidents. I avoid kitesurfing lesson because they far too dangerous hence Kitesports !!!

can't undertand how it can be safe puting a newbie on a large inflatable and letting him go with practically no kite flying experiance??

I reconmend 3 months flying of small foils before you even touch an inflatable.

do you call that dangerous kiting practices??

why is the sport so small in aussie?? It because of the way it's been taught !!!! too scary !!!
