The jingo jango explained(note: this is just the name i made for it). *
Most poleys are able to jingo jango with ease as are ballroom dancers and some skateboarders and in most cases yachties could explain it to you. So what is it?
Its a combination of things, most commonly refered to as a jibe with a shuffle, coming about and a revert but involves a little bit more or less depending on where the wave is and when you do the dance.
For example: Wind is coming over your left shoulder as you head out to sea left foot forward, heelside.
1. The Jingo.
You want to head back into shore AFTER you have got past the breakers(or there are no breakers). Simple, send the kite back from whence it came and as it starts through the middle of the NEW power zone do a toeside carve. Just as you finish the carve and you have sufficient power then push the bar away slightly. At precisely(not a second before or after) you do this, move your rear foot just behind your front RIGHT on the EDGE of the board,( this will hold you against your kite and limit the amount of times you do a forward dive which is good footage but not great for you face). At this stage you are still riding toeside with your front foot(a.k.a your left foot) in the middle of the board and your right foot(yes the back one) behind it, but on the edge. Keeping it on(or towards) the edge is muy importante unless you are in the jingo jango bloopers competetion then just put it anywhere you please.
Leave your back foot(right) where it is and move your left foot to the back of the board, anywhere will do, but towards the edge is better. if you have managed all of this and are going forwards and not titanic-cing then re-adjust your feet to their prefferred spot, forwards/backwards/side etc depending on wind and wave conditions and desired speed.
2. The Jango
You want to head back into shore before the breakers(or you want to look cool). A little less simple, push the bar away slightly keeping the kite fairly high, but not to high, bear slightly downwind, apply pressure(ie slightly stall) to the back of the board and do the two step/jango/switcheroo. Replace your front foot with your back foot and vice versa. i.e. jump and switch your feet around. Send your kite back from whence it came and there you go.
Easy? hahahahah, the front section of my board that has perfect shaped indents of my head might argue. why? well i forgot to mention the wave heading towards you that you want to "hit" just after you finish the jango, get it right and oh so sweet, get it wrong and ..well.. .ow!
Both are about timing and lots and lots of practise. Oh, and you need to learn natural to goofy and goofy to natural as well. I still think its easier WITHOUT straps to learn, but if you are an ex-poley you might disagree. Also when kiting in waves on a surfboard you are constantly moving your feet around, i personally find the straps get in the way, but to each their own, just have fun.
