This is just one of those questions I`ve been dying to ask but have never actually asked! What better place than here in the ananimity of the forum.

Each to their own and all the better for freedom of expression, But..........

Why do some kiters wear boardshorts over the top of Wetsuits?

Not trying to be a smart arse or get on anyones goat. I really just want to know.

Try this, don't know if it answers your question as I can't be bothered re-reading it, however it is about boardies over wetties.

Don't know the reason either, don't wear wetties.

Have a laugh.

It must be a conspiracy by small blokes and board short manufacturers. Kiteboarding magazine June/July issue page 65 suggests that you would be a better rider by working to "avoid having your beach look like a sausage factory".

have you ever seen snowboarders wearing ski racing suits>> it looks ridiculous...its a board sport.wear some sort of baggy shorts. I know surfers wear wetties and this is fine but that is different. with surfing you are in the water swimming most of the time. to me kiting with a wetty and no shorts would be similar to skateboarding in a pair of Reg Reagan footy shorts.

This is true. A naked wettie ain't no stylin'.

That's why I wears my Speedos over my wettie. Then I gets some respec. I like to accessorise with some bling-bling too.

I think its' safe to say that males can generally be placed into one of two camps, those that wear their Speedo at the beach or at a public pool (when not swimming laps) and those who prefer to wear board type shorts. The same basic principal can be extended to kiting.

Which is the preferable option? Mmmmm.... well even David Hasslehoff wore his red boardies while in public (even while performing rescues). Enough said.

You're definitely not giving your all to kiting if you've got enough time to be waisting thoughts on vanity.

Did the Anzacs worry about how they looked storming the beach front in those daggy strides? No God damn it they did not! Why? Coz they were Australians! Not namby-pamby bloody metro-sexual Americans!

Any good, decent, Aussie kiter is (1) going too hard to be worried if his balls are hanging out of his harness! (2) too busy pushing that perfect kite-loop to be worried about the beach crew sizing up his packed lunch! (3) damn proud of his sausage! (4) probably female anyway and has a damn fine figure well worth showing off!

If this keeps up much longer the kite manufacturers will have to start packaging their new kites with make-up mirrors... so the "bois" can touch-up their lippy after the excertion of pumping the kite up!

BTW Does my arse look fat in this new steamer?

Ah mate... Good luck with the winds tomorrow then! Only prediced to be at the most about 13 knots, so there's no point in heading to Wello. Hoepfully you will have some luck down at the GC. I sure hope those predicted winds kick in next week

nope - started work in melbourne this week. managed 3 sessions here so far, but unfortunately i couldnt emulate sir hof as its too cold. but not as cold as you might think, being a sun spoilt brisbanite....

and yes - i wore boardies over my wettie, because i can

i'll be back for some wello sessions soon enough though - when the north easters kick in!

Congratulations must be in order then for the new job. Three sessions is pretty good in such a short time! Ashame it's too cold there to replicate sir hof- would have made a lasting impression

You'l soon miss the beautiful sunny weather, your kiting mates, the great winds, the 't-shirt and cargo-pants' weather, and the 24 deg days. Luckily it's only a short flight away though, and the consistant winds will soon be kicking in.

You missed a great one on Wednesday though. Too strong for me, but Stewie and his mate, Henri, Zebb, Zac, and a few others I don't know yet were poping big jumps and tricks. Zebb did a jump start from the roof of the 'tourist information cover' (near the stairs down to King Island), and landed it! Dangerous, but well done.

So...... there is someone with a good reason!

All the rest is just about fashion huh?

I think I`ll stick with just a wettie.
I`m proud of my sausage

I this may be a bit to much "Hoff" style for me. But.....I will be sure to laugh and point when I see it on the beach!

I agree with azza... I dont recall checking out if someones personal assets are obvious when wearing only a wetty. Perhaps those who wear boardies over wet suits are insecure about there own sexuality. Perhaps this could be a good topic for one of those American lunch time talk back shows.
I remember a guy carving up a black diamond run on the ski field wearing yellow 'Line 7' leggings and rain coat whilst all the fashion concious nit wits were picking there way for the nearest cappucino in the top chair cafe. I know what impressed me the most.
